What is the current thinking on travel for the drive shaft yoke in the trans. I'm thinking 1.5 to2. inches of travel at the back, the car has cal tracs so it's not going to twist up very much. Dave.

I pushed it in trans as deep it goes and then one inch out. Running with torque bars.

3/4 inch to 1 inch

I've got no specs, but I think snakeoil is about right. I mean, it looks like with that depth of splines you could be much farther out of the trans that 1" or so.

However, I ran a driveshaft that was maybe 2" too short for me. It looked OK with all that depth of splines. However, I would get a weird vibration on the highway....like the trans was about to spit out the front yoke or the driveshaft was way out of balance. I put in a longer driveshaft and that problem went away....just my experience.

The yoke in the car now has about 4 /4.5 inches sticking out. I made up a drive shaft that turned out to be a 1/4 inch to long, if I have the shaft cut 1&3/4 it will put me in close proximity to the correct length. thanks for the replys, I have forgotten so much s//t about my car in the last 20 yrs it ain't even funny. old car been sitting a long time, damn!!!! thanks again fellas, Dave.
