Just want to make sure on this. The front (smaller) reservoir goes the rear brakes and the back (larger) reservoir goes to the front brakes.

This is correct, or at least how my car is connected.

I want to say on my 67 when I traced them out the one closest to the firewall was to the rears.

Mine is even marked. (Drums, front and rear)

The brake calipers need the larger fluid reservoir for when the brake pads wear, there is more fluid left in calipers so fluid level in master cylinder goes down. That is why the disc brake side of master cylinder reservoir is larger than drum brake side.
