Has anyone tried to redo their door panels, how did it work out and did you replace the backing boards? It appears that the backer boards are 1/8" press board.
I got mine from Legendary and just re-used the upper portion (metal) and got busy....used alot of pins/clamps to hold the material down while the glue dried. Very easy.
I painted mine . aquired a spare set to send off when the painted ones start really bugging me and funds permit. 5.7 how did you attach backer board to the metal that hangs over the window ledge. (curved piece that also holds the window scrapper/seal)? least thats what my 64 polara has.
I've ordered some DIY kits for my 62 from SMS .As soon as I receive them I'll do a post.
The kit includes di electric stamped vinyl, backing board, window whisker and clips (attaching).
Staples just like the factory. Take the old staples out, then use staples from your staple gun. I drilled the holes in the backer board the pushed by hand the staples thru then used a hammmer to tap the staples over. It worked just fine. Also dont use a "paper stapler staples".
I am going to have to do mine from scratch so I willl be buying a sheet of press board and remaking my panels. I have already gotten samples for the vinyl that I will be using to recover them.
I was just checking Legendary and their panels are 500ish. Maybe a phone call could get it narrowed down to exactly what your looking for and the price. But if ya do make your own keep us posted.
