I have a driver Charger 500 that sat for many years and is heavily perfumed by mouse piss. Really, I have nearly no sense of smell but I can hardly stand it. I replaced the carpets, cleaned the nests out of the seats, and scrubbed down the floor pan. The worst of it seems to be in the headliner. It's so bad that the entire garage reeks! This car is in line for a restoration, but it won't be until others in front of it are finished... (several years). In the meantime, I would like to keep the mouse piss car intact as a driver and be able to enjoy it...... meaning: I do not want to rip out the headliner until the car is painted and a new one goes in.

I would live to hear of any solutions that people have been used to neutralize that smell!

It's in the headliner and insulation. Might even be in the glovebox, heater, and firewall insulation.
It's entirely possible to repaint a car and not bother the headliner, though; I've done it several times.

Fabreeze the **** out of it, put half a dozen of those cans of air freshener crystals. I went through this with one of my cars. Eventually it went away.

Try cat piss. That should overpower the mouse piss smell. !!!
Seriously, about all you can do it rip out the liner and insulation up there and spay it down with urine be gone stuff pet owners buy for their carpets.

Just cut the headliner out. You can do that and leave all the hardware and bows in place. That smell is not going away. I don't care how much perfume you throw at it.

Yeah, for some reason those little Bastards like ti get up over the sun visors and pee pee. I put a new headliner in my car and
while it was in storage, they got it again! Had to rip everything out and clean, clean, clean. Good luck!

An ionizer might also help a lot. Things like kitty litter, coffee, anything that dissolves orders. Maybe ask a mortuary what they do with a deceased body that smells. Try specialists that clean houses after someone has passed on and been in a house for awhile.

I got a 98 Jeep from the original owner several years ago (for free!) and he was (still is) a very heavy smoker. A buddy of mine gave me a couple of those 'odor eaters' and the first one got rid of most of it and the 2nd one did the trick. IIRC, HD sells it....but can't remember the brand of it but the stuff is fairly common. how to get rid of bad odor in a car - Google Search

Mice infested my plow truck and got into the heater ducts and blower motor, had to take the motor out and fill up three grocery bags of nest **** & piss reaching into the ducts with a coat hanger. Yeah, this was during a snow storm and had to keep the windows open wearing a respirator from the stench. Blew out the ducts with compressed air including under and behind the seat. Used a lot of moth balls that helped some, dryer sheets, fabreeze, pinesol cleaner spraying that in the ducts and blowing that through. Fuckers were everywhere including the engine bay. Used carpet cleaner on the seats and carpet leaving the doors open to air it out. Doesn’t stink much anymore; but always detectable think the solution as mentioned is tearing out fabric and carpet (in my case).

When you do restore it, make sure you check all the frame rails and rockers for nests. I bought and restored a car several years ago that I didn't think was terrible rustwise. That is until I found out those little bustards built nests in those places. Pissed in their nests and rotted the metal from the inside. What a nightmare that was....

Charcoal helps , but you will still have to get the urine cleaned up before the smell will go away.

I forgot, we also opened up boxes of baking soda. I did not disassemble mine and the smell went away. This thing was awful when I opened it up.

I had one die in the front box under the hood.
That was gross.
Then when I finally started the Plymouth they were evicted from the mufflers.

Cat piss is excellent, but wolf piss even better.

Two things:

1. Natures Miracle. Get it at pet store.
2. Odoban (Clean Linen scent). Get it at Home Depot.

Do both, first 1. then 2.

The Natures Miracle is an enzyme that will break down the ammonia and uric acids. The odoban is a bactericide/viricide that will permanently kill all secondary bacteria growing on the "remnants" the mouse left behind.

Do both and it will be cleaner than a surgeons table.

Thanks, gents. I will try a few of these out. If I can at least get it to a state where I can drive it without wanting to puke I'll be happy enough until I get to the restoration.

As I said, I don't to pull the headliner out. I prefer to keep my project cars drivable and whole right up until restoration actually starts.... otherwise there would be 20 basket cases in my eventual estate sale.
