Does anyone know of somebody that bought or sold an old car on Ebay? I scroll once in a while in the classic car section and the prices are ridiculous. I also see a lot of listings that have been there for a while not selling. Just curious.

Most people just "advertise" there. Most ads are free and it generates interest and many cars sell off site then....

I bought a corvette on ebay a long time ago and I sold a newer corvette on ebay. Both went well. I think there are deals to be had. But as stated there are a lot of Barrett-Jackson prices on there for bondo mobiles. And if you can not look a car over pictures are so deceiving. The same with craigslist it should always be buyer beware unless you can kick the tires.JMO

Great looking ride. You were lucky that it wasn't that far away. Seems to me that that is a rare deal on Ebay these days.

I bought a 70 charger off eBay for the starting bid was all around a great buy .
I just bought a 07 superbee and the guy failed to mention alit of issues then after I payed him he managed to remove the listing and I lost my eBay protection! I told eBay I bought the car they said the seller never sold it even though I did buy it now... I hate eBay

I made a deal on ebay for my '62. It didn't make reserve, I was the high bidder, contacted the seller, made a deal over the phone.

I bought my previous 300 off e Bay, 8 years ago. Fair price, private seller. I agree it seems now most prices are rediculous. I have seen the same 69 RR listed by a consignment shop, going on 6 years now....

Thanks! I had seen it on eBay a couple of years before for a higher price with a parts car located in GA so I passed on it.

Same deal for me though. Every deal on a car I really wanted was thousands of miles away.

I bought my 66 Coronet from ebay.
No one else bid on it.
                    Super solid body, unmolested.

I bought a 74 Charger parts car via ebay.
Hoped it was better, but seller did not disclose rust out at the K frame bolts.
Parted it and almost made my money back.

I bought my 72 Charger from ebay.
Will likely part it but it was only $1200 and has an 8 3/4 3.23 SG I will use and will easily make money on the rest.

                    I bought a '98 suzuki intruder 1400 via ebay around 2004.
3K and the seller delivered it.
                    Rode it for years.

About 5 years ago I bought a 68 Dart GTS Big Block A/T numbers car, off Ebay. Car was original unrestored, so I knew it would need a lot of work, and I would do it myself. Got it for a 10th of the restored price, so I knew i couldn't get hurt too much 012.JPG buying it from Indiana. Im in Maryland, and had it delivered for bout $600. I was very happy, when it arrived, and i verified numbers matching everything.....

Our GTX was an eBay find as well. It met the criteria I was after at the time:
                          a. close enough for an in-person inspection
                          b. the work it still needed I could do myself
                          c. it had proof of "pedigree" (but was not numbers-matching)
                          d. I could afford the damn thing (paid the initial opening bid price)

Ebay should be treated as an advertising venue and nothing more, same as any other online source of ads.
The same rules apply there as anywhere else - don't buy anything sight-unseen (and no, pictures don't count). If you can't get your hands on the car yourself (or you don't trust yourself to do a proper job of inspection), then hire a professional to inspect it for you.

Finally, just because it doesn't appear that a car has sold on eBay does not mean it didn't sell at all - most deals are made offline on those cars and more of "em sell than you think.

I bought my E-body last year off E-bay. I talked to the guy several times on the phone. Had to bring him down to reality on price. Everything was what he said and promised. Just found a few piddly things. Very easy transaction. I also sold a Duster last year on E-bay. It was easy as well. ended up getting a little more than I thought.
