Well this has been an interesting project. I can say everything I have seen so far on the Edelbrock system and getting the car started for the first time was awesome. Super simple and the car started right up. I've actually had the car running for two weeks. However I have not been able to drive it yet and I haven't wanted to post any updates until I could truly talk about the Fuel Injection system itself. However I figured an update is probably worth while at this point.
Two weeks ago when I started the car for the first time. Transmission fluid was shooting everywhere from a cracked line to the cooler. I would bet I caught one of those lines when I was getting in and out of the engine bay getting it prepped for paint. I tried being careful and don't specifically remember catching one of them. But it wasn't leaking prior to the engine pull.
It took me about a week to get parts in and get the lines fixed. So two weekends ago I started the car again and made it thru the initial tuning setup. I was about to take a video to post up here for you guys and smoke started coming from the engine bay... Power steering pump went bad.
After spending all afternoon running around Saturday to get a power steering pump I had it in the car and ready to go by late Saturday. I was pretty excited yesterday to take the car for a spin. I spent the morning bleeding brakes and setting the car back on the ground. I finished hooking up headlights and so on. Fired up the car around noon. Went through some final checks and realized my alternator was not charging the car. I replaced the alternator and still no luck. I went back thru every connection to verify I had the car hooked up the way it was prior to the cut over to fuel injection. Everything matched.
I'll save the rest of what we checked for the electrical forum, but in short, tonight starts with pulling the wiring harnesses out and looking for a broken wire. I've run across this before with one of the headlight wires some time ago. A lot of these wires are super brittle from all of the years, and to get the engine bay painted, I was either moving wire bundles around or disconnecting wire harnesses more so than other engine pulls in the past. I'll let you know what it ends up being.
With all that said, I can say that I am super excited for this system. Anything I've had to do related to the Edelbrock system has been pretty easy. I couldn't believe how simple it was to get through the initial startup tuning. So far the system has just worked. No real tweaks or having to modify things to make the car run. It just works. Even without driving the car yet. If I crack the throttle open the engine jumps with no hesitation. Pretty impressive considering its never left my garage to go through the self tuning. I dropped that idle to 600 RPM and man does that lope sound good. I'll snag a video tonight before I start pulling wires so you can hear it.
And a big thank you again to all of you for the help. Especially with avoiding the gas tank problems I would have run across. You help is definitely why much of this has been so easy so thank you again. Looking forward to seeing you out on the road.
Its good to see the car back on the ground again:
