Resent purchase of a motorhome with a 200 amp alternator. Want to install a engine battery kill switch. Bought a 350 amp continuous switch.
My question is 4 gauge or 2 gauge battery cables ? Auto parts stores carry 4 gauge. They need to be 16'' long. Do you think 4 gauge will work ok ?

NO !!

You want fine strand copper welding cable. 2 gauge would work well or 1 gauge.

Go to an electrical supply - the place contractors shop - they will have numerous gauges of fine strand copper cable sold by the foot.

Do not mistake 2 gauge from 2/0 or 1 gauge 1/0.

Now you need the copper connectors and crimp tool and some heat shrink would also be handy.

Alternator size has nothing to do with it - the switch goes in the battery positive line. If the battery can't start the engine the alternator cant turn to generate power.
