Hello All

Could you chime in on the best way to eliminate the emissions on 1974 400 big block Runner?

I have installed a new Radiator which no longer has the CCEGR. One of the vacuum hoses was just dangling anyway.

Just want to know what lines to keep, plug, disconnect or eliminate etc.

I know I need the distributor vacuum, heater controls, but what else if anything?

PICS would be helpful if youv'e been there done that.

Just want her to run her best if you know what i mean? This is a stock 400 except for a newer competition carb the previous owner installed.

Thank you

About the only real emission device on a 1974 would have been EGR. You can just disconnect the vacuum hose to that or pull it from the intake (usually on the passenger side near the carb on the 400) and install a block off plate. Catalytic Converters did not come into play until 1976 and later. There could be a lot of vacuum hoses on it but you need the vacuum line to the dash for the heat/AC controls, and a 'ported vacuum' (vacuum increases as the throttle opens) to the distributor. That is about all I can recall off the top of my head.

Ok

Thank you ADVERT65

I'll look for those block off plates. Mine is on driverside near front of intake.

You wouldn't know the correct block off plate would you?

No, I am not certain of any part numbers. Back in the day, we made our own out of plate steel. (Or scavenged them off police cars).

Maintain the heated air intake system- that was the only good thing to come from emission controls from that era. I added it to several vehicles I owned back then to combat carburetor icing in cool, damp weather.

Try to retain the fuel vapor can so fuel tank venting is not hindered. One vacuum line and one vent line to carb from vapor can.
