Engine identification

I just got this engine can someone help identify it ? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I was told that because of the R very hard to see on the engine stamping that it was an HP is that true ? I've never heard that before.

The block being an HP or not means NOTHING! There is only extra value in an HP block to the ignorant. All the blocks were identical, the only differences were internal components like pistons and camshaft, all of which would be replaced during a rebuild.
You want an Hp block? Buy some metal stamps.

HP means HP. Nothing else. No secret decoder needed.

I read that as 0Gxxxxxx. You are probably right.

there is a weee bit of value to an hp block that is original to the car like a Charger R/T or GTX etc..
But for a pos grocery getter or a racecar, no extra value.

The brunt of all ( and there were very many ) 383' s got Forged cranks. The 400's made to replace them got mostly cast cranks. Which does your motor have??

Cast cranks have a thin parting line while the forge cranks have a wide line.

Engine assembly date is 6 11 (1970).

F383 = 383 assembly for model year 1970

0C254362 VIN indicates a likely 616 SPD at the Jefferson plant also meaning it's out a Chrysler Newport, Newport Custom or Town and Country wagon.

Since it's in a Chrysler, it is not an HP assembly as there was no 383 HP engine for a C body.

Weren't the HP engines 'high performance' built from the factory?

There was an HP 383 option for 1970 C bodies. I owned a Town and Country wagon, numbers matching .

There was a 383-4bbl 330 horse version for the C bodies but there was no HP 335 horse. The block in that car would have been turquoise and would not have been stamped HP. Many decoders and sources erroneously list the H VIN and E63 sales code as HP when there were numerous versions of the 383-4bbl for 68-70 A, B and C bodies.

If you are referring as the 5th digit in the VIN as H, it is an N.
