You don't have to hope. Several have already been filed and it's possible the feds will get involved. They'll probably go bankrupt when it's all done.

If you sign up be sure you don't opt out of class action suit. There is a way to not opt out you have to look for it. That was a couple of days ago it might have changed because of the up roar.
Froze my credit Tuesday. Think there is an option to put a credit watch on. That means they will contact before credit is opened in your name. Check on that before part I'm not positive.

Cool

My understanding is, if you take the credit watch, you forfeit your legal recourse

There are 3 credit bureau's, Transunion, Experian and Equifax.
You can put a credit watch on the other two. May cost you? A credit freeze with Transunion is free.
Experion and Equifax $10 to freeze and $10 to unfreeze.
I don't think you loose your right in class action suit, I wouldn't bet on it. It is true you can lose your right in class action if you ask Equifax if you were part of the breach. As I said in post #4 there's a way not to lose your right in class action.
It cost me $65 to freeze my credit, I mail all the letters "return receipt requested".

So just how much do you really expect to get as a member of a class action suit?? Lawyers=85% fucked over citizens=15%divided by 528million people= .23cents apiece!!!! Not worth the trouble.

We better hope the Republicans don't dismantle the oversight (I believe in part consumer financial protection bureau) that we need to watch over these things. Class action just pays the lawyers.

I froze my credit with Transunion and Experian with no problem (and it was free for me), but trying to do it with Equifax is an exercise in futility whether by phone or internet. If anyone can get through (either way), please post the solution. It's like trying to contact someone who just scammed you.

Froze my credit with Equifax this evening online with no issues. Filled in the information, hit submit a couple times and got the PIN number. Took less than 10 minutes.
