Going to remove the exhaust manifolds from my 440 this weekend to restore them. I know the manifold bolt extent into the water jacket. Do I need to completely drain the collant, or can it just be partially drained?

The studs should stay in the head. I doubt that they will come out. But, yes, to be on the safer side of things, you can drain out some coolant.

Thanks....I wasn't sure if the manifold had bolts or studs. If they are studs, I will just keep an eye on them as I back the nuts off. If the studs stay in place, I won't bother draining the coolant.

Use ATF and acetone as a penetrating fluid. Worked great for me.

If it's been on there a long time I would soak all the nuts and studs for a couple of days before trying to remove it.
Most come off just fine, but the water jacket studs can leak just a bit of moisture and the cap nut gets frozen on.
Be very careful. If you break a stud on the head you have a MUCH BIGGER job on your hands. I've done it.

Thanks, I am going to start a regime of penetrating lube and heat cycling tonight. Hopefully there will be no issues!
