Working on a 64 Polara with a 383, Torqueflite, factory air, and fan clutch. Fan clutch has no wiggle and turns freely. The fan clutch has been in contact with the radiator core. Currently has about 1/4" gap between the core and clutch. Distance from water pump hub to front edge for fan clutch is 2-3/4". Anybody have and info on either of these measurements, and what they should be. Thanks

1/4" isn't enough room. Remember that your motor moves when you give it gas. I think 3/4" should be the bare minimum of space and I run solid motor mounts at that.

There is a shorter fan clutch available. I haven't paid enough attention to know the part#, but I believe it's a Jaguar oe. (I don't use the fan clutch, or I'd know the part#).. Hayden?
Check "clutch fan info" below.

That's one nice car!!!! Was that picture from way back?

Look for a Torqflo 922765 Jaguar fan clutch

2947 Hayden? Do something measuring and research.
Not only that, it’s too large a diameter on the water pump end for a factory fan to bolt into it. I tried that fan clutch last weekend and returned it 2 days ago

I’ve got the same problem. I have two friends that have the clearance fit the clutch fan in. It turns out that their motors sit about 3/8” to 5/8” farther back in the chassis. My car is a 64 Belvedere and the other two cars are a 64 Fury and a 65 Coronet.

I think you need the Hayden 2765 clutch, but that's going off my crusty memory. Check your dimensions, and the dimensions of any clutch considered for replacement.

This seems to usually be a radiator problem, at least that's true on my cars. Aftermarket aluminum radiators.

Throw in the shorter Hayden and it will sit behind the furthest blade point. This is good. Now you have to worry about the blade to radiator clearance. According to factor service manuals 62-65 this can be 1/2" to 1 1/4". You should be at 9/16" or so and good to go.

Just my two cents

Keep us posted!

And I could still be wrong. Just went outside and tried every which way possible and still only about a 1/4" clearance between clutch and core. And that is with the short clutch fan, which it seems you may already have at 2 3/4". Those extra cores make all the difference.

Need to get it re-cored. Going to see what they can do at the rad shop. Thanks
