Fat Fish Rear Main Seal

Planned on smoothing it or forming it out in the retainer cap. Then loosen the cap bolts and raising up the crank just enough to get ahold of it with the sneaky Pete tool. My buddy had the exact problem with his 440 15 years ago and the rope seal with this method worked for him and he is still leak free. Maybe it’ll work for me, maybe it won’t, maybe he just got lucky. If it don’t feel right I’ll just go ahead and jerk the crank out.
Once I get it back together I will report back also. Have a few things to do before but I will be back with the info.

Rope seals "crush in" and kind of need to be smoothed out. I don't think they will go in with the crank in place.
I fitted a few when I was an apprentice but that 40 years ago.
They also are very tight on the crank.
Yep, but I ain't yanking this Hemi. Maybe would consider dropping the crank a tad if I thought I had a good shot at it. Thx for the information as that maybe a last ditch effort for me. I do not think I could force it through without destroying something as is.

Yeah let me know how it goes.

***Update*** Had to go do some bushhoging on my farm today but before that got my fel-pro rope seal in. Just got back and after 7 hours of doing a leak test is it not leaking after the last 3 times it was leaking within an hour. I still need to run the engine to see if it’ll leak but I’m crossing my fingers and hoping the leak is fixed.
