88 dodge ramcharger 4x4,318 fuel injected, 3 speed automatic. A friend of mine has the code come up 37 which is for the Park Throttle unlock selenoid driver. Is there anyone here that works for dodge dealer service or who is familiar with that code that knows what that is for or what would cause that to appear? thanks in advance.

The books around here are few and far between, but it should be part throttle unlock solenoid, not park. It would have to be for the lock up torque converter im thinking. It obviously does not have electronic overdrive, that didnt come around for almost a decade after this truck. The wire for the lock up converter comes throught the case at the left rear corner above the pan rail. make sure thats plugged in. i don't have a wiring diagram handy so I cant tell you much more than that. If its plugged in already, you may need to follow the wire back throught he harness to see if its damaged anywhere.

that is a baro code(map sensor)only used on california models, solenoid is not opening in proper sequence.not sure if you can even get a replacment since it only exsited on the california model.good luck.

For turbocharged engines, code 37 will be triggered when the baro-read solenoid circuit is open or shorted.
For normally aspirated (non turbo) engines with automatic transmissions, code 37 will be triggered when the Part Throttle Unlock (PTU) solenoid circuit is open or shorted.
For normally aspirated cars with manual transmissions, code 37 is sometimes set for no apparent reason.

Thanks guys,i passed the info on to my buddy and he was going to check the connections the first chance he had.

Actually the overdrive for rear drive first came out in 88 or 89 on Dakota trucks. But you have a 3 speed auto and that code is for the converter lock-up circuit. That year should also use a relay on the firewall that the PCM will ground when it wants to apply the lock-up. It could be a problem in the solenoid itself which is in the trans on the valve body or it can also be a problem in the relay circuit that powers the solenoid. If you know a good tech who can check out the circuits and read a wire diagram you might want to let him check it for you. I had one a few years back that the relay under the hood on the firewall was full of water because of how it was mounted on the firewall and it caused problems of the lock-up coming on when it should not.
