I just bought this car, what do these fender tag codes say?

18103 17271

115 084 G70

26 C16 M46

EF8 V88

EF8 D6X9 TX9 B21 045769

D32 WS 23 UOA XXXXXX

1970 coronet r/t 440, 26" radiator, stripe delete, side scoops, green with black interior

I thought TX9 was a black exterior paint code? Was that the interior?

Nearly every year is different for code placement on tags so it depends on where the TX9 is located.

You thought it was a 1967 which the sales codes are completely different also.

You know this car is a 1970 model from the partial V.I.N. on the tag with the sixth digit being a 0 for 1970.

You have a lot to learn about fender tag decoding before offering comments without a disclaimer of "I think" grasshopper.

Black is the combination of all colors (or the absence of all color). The upper door frame is the painted part of the inside just above the vinyl covered cardboard door panel. Car is/was EF8 Green, black bucket seats, black udf, black carpet, center console. 440 with HD auto trans.

Peace

Gracias Senor Frog!

Thanx Dude!

Now I know everything that is written on that Fender tag!

Peace back at you!

Maybe.... LR used C16 to code both enter console and the buddy seat from 1969 through at least '72 so you cannot know which option was installed simply by the fender tag. It could be either.

So the guys on the assembly line made the decision to put in a console vs a center armrest.

No. There are only so many places to insert codes on a tag. LR layout was totally different than other plants. They used only certain codes and those codes were always in the same place on the tag. (the exact placement of a code can shift during the model year but only by one or two spaces). When you decode a LR tag, notice that a specific code, like C16, only shows up in one place on the tag. It does not appear in a diferent position like sales codes can from other plants. LR did not code C21 on the tag as there was no room to place another, different code. They didn't code C16 OR C21 as the only code used for those specific three spaces on the tag were used for C16. LR used C16 to indicate the car came with a console OR center arm rest.

(FWIW...these are nuances as to how you can tell a badly remade LR tag.)

Here's a good illustration. I have a copy of a tag from a LR built 69 Coronet 500 four door with bucket seats (P6X) and C16 on the tag. If you did a traditional tag decode, you would say the car came with a console but the console was not available in a four door. The buddy seat was.

The next time you see a 69+ LR built car with a buddy seat, see if the tag says C16 or C21.

A lot of good info on the tag from Doug above but what he really didn't answer was the fact that the line workers did not go by the tag for building the car but rather the broadcast sheet which DOES show the proper code for what was to go between the seats.
