44 on the gauge outside....66 inside. Day before yesterday it was in the 70's.

It’s been stove season for a few weeks now at our place.

9 degrees earlier, warmed up to a balmy 14 right now.
What kind of heater/furnace do you have in Texas? Electric?Sure it is!!

House is all electric but have a fireplace too. Been while since using it though. Used to keep a stash of firewood in case the power goes out but not doing that this year. Used to have gas up to the front of the shop for heat out there but the gas company got pissy with me being a 'seasonal' customer and started charging too much to turn off the gas in the summer and the bill for just being hooked up got too high so I told them to just come and pull the freaking meter. Now I heat the shop with propane. The X used to keep me pretty busy on the firewood. One winter she went though 4 cords! That's a LOT for here. That's when I made her go with me to 'gather' the stuff and she quit having a roaring fire all the time. lol
Man, I'm not ready for that kind of cold yet. Where's the red X when we need it!?!
I thought it may be electric. I was curious if you had natural gas in your area. NG is the norm here in the upper midwest and it's cheaper than electricity. LP in the country but NG in town.
up to 19 degrees now, gonna have a low of 4 in a few days, heating 2 buildings and my house with propane, thats what I'm not ready for. Keep the pole barn at 45, the shop at 60, and the house at 68. The shop and pole barn use less propane than my 180 year old farm house combined, remodeled the house 20 years ago, wish I could have afforded spray foam back then would have saved me a fortune.Man, I'm not ready for that kind of cold yet. Where's the red X when we need it!?!
I assumed the same thing, my brother in eastern tennesee uses electric for heat also.

New houses here since probably the late 70's do not have NG...and this place was built in 76. My last house had NG but wasn't built with central AC. That place was built in 55. Here, the gas company didn't want to supply a free line unless I converted the whole house to NG....at first but then they agreed to lay in 100' from the main to the front of the garage. Told them that I would convert my appliances to NG as the electric stuff died away so they laid the line. The appliances are still working knock on wood. Did remodel the kitchen some years back and went with a oven/stove slide in and got rid of the range top and built in oven. I've never been of a fan of cooking with NG as it throws out a lot of heat and since the summer time is long here, electric is the way to go for stove top cooking. And combining the oven with the stove freed up a bunch of space for cabinets.

A little over a week ago, I was basking in 85 degree weather with bright sunshine and warm waters in the Caribbean. Tomorrow they're talking about 5-10" of snow at my place in NH.
