Hello everyone. Figure I would start a new thread since my old one is getting long and You figured some of my problems out. How do you install these clips? Were do those little prong things push in? My headliner is in.The were labeled that they went on that trim piece in front of my rear view mirror ( 68 b-body ). Some of you did not know I was missing these. Thanks.

The long slotted area on the clips are where the trim screws attach. The clips themselves will insert into slots through the head liner on the lip just inside the windshield rubber.

If you hold the trim up you can get a ballpark idea about where the clips go and then just feel around for a slot to inset them into.

In your picture I believe the second clip from the left is the correct orientation.

I was afraid you would say this since I was poking around with my finger trying to find these holes earlier in the week but was not sure how they mounted . IS THIS PICTURE RIGHT ? Thanks.

Once you locate the holes you will insert the little "prongs" in the hole then with meddle nose sqeeze the outer tabs together to lock them in place. Sorry doing this on my phone if it did not help. Jim

*******Man home on the computer now and seeing that I suck using that to try and post plus I see that it looks like you got more help. People are so good here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That looks right to me. I remember the slots for the clips being 1/8" to 3/16" square and about 3/8" up on the lip where the headliner attaches.

"Feeling" for those slots through the headliner material could be problematic. I would suggest that you find an awl or perhaps a needle to try and probe for the openings. Once you find them try and trim away the headliner material if you can.

P.S. 100th post ... woooo hooooo

Your picture

Your clips are positioned right. They must be installed properly in the holes across the front steel rib. First you must close the spread on the 2 tabs part of the clip that faces up & actually goes inside the rib. You will notice that the bottom 2 tabs will spread apart. Then insert the upper 2 tabs into the hole. Now while you hold the clip up against the upper rail, gently squeeze the 2 lower tabs together & that will spread your upper 2 tabs apart & secure your clip in place. Do this for all 5 clips & now you can install your mldg. Make sure your screws are the proper length as you don`t want to dimple your roof skin. I tried to upload step by step pics but they wouldn`t go. Hope this helps.

Thats is my problem, when i took down my trim, those fell out. How are they held in?

Man. Who would of thought this trim piece mounting is so sophisticated. I could not of done this without you guys. And think I stumbled across someones picture and spotted these clips during lunch today ( this stuff frustrates me ) and had them sitting in a cardboard box in my garage. Hi Dave. Sounds like those prongs on the tab push into the holes in front of the roof. Dave is your Headliner IN OR OUT ?

Pics

After installing, the spread pronges actually hold the clip tight. :headbang:
