Fresh Walleye Fillet for dinner

From Key Hole, Wyoming. Broiled in a sauce pan with butter and white wine. Big pinch of sea salt and just a little fresh ground black pepper. Accompanied by baked broccoli and crinkle fries. I could do it all over again.

Guess what the dog had... same thing (poured over his dog food) He could do it again too.
Very nice.

Sounds great, I thought people hated Walleye though..or is it Pike?

It must be Pike, I have never seen Pike on a restaurant menu and around here they don't get very big. Hammer handles. Must be warm water fish. We toss them on the beach for critters to eat. Damn bait stealers.

I feel like a leper now....all I had for dinner was eye-fillet steak with mushroom sauce.

damn makes me hungry now for fish

I love fish, my second favorite meal

we don't have Walleye or much Pike out here
we do have some great trout fishing,
Browns, Rainbow & Goldens or Brooks
(my favorite type is streams, small rivers, higher elevations)
salmon, steelhead, bass largemouth & smallmouth
striper bass in the bigger rivers, that feed into the Pacific Ocean
good channel catfish & some huge sturgeon too
lil' ponds with catfish, yummy fried
& perch/bluegills tasty grilled for breakfast

I don't mind trolling some too, have an old 16' bowrider/outboard
but I prefer streams & walking/hiking

then there's that big body of water
just left of US 'the Pacific Ocean'
rock, canary or lingcod, pacific flounder & striper or salmon
are my favorites, shark is fun to catch too (not that great eating)

Up in Alaska, it was Halabot & all species of Salmon, some lake pike
or sturgeon, lots of trout species or shad, I lived off fish up there

That ain't snapper. Smells similar but looks completely different.

Best fish I ever had was at Oahe Lodge on the MO river 20 yeas ago. It was swimming hours before cooked. Grouper is pretty good, also.

Is walleye a white fish?

Many years ago, traveling with Pipeliners Local Union 798 , I found myself in Northern Minnesota , in January and February on a job , welding 36” heavy wall pipe concrete coated , across peat moss bogs frozen 10’ thick in places , daylight temps were well below 0* and at night like a blizzard ! Being the Southerner, that I am , I love to fish and met a fellow in the town, where I was staying from my home area ! His family moved there when he was a child to work in the local paper mill ! As we got to know each other better , I was invited to go fishing with him and some older buddies , in a small house pulled out on a frozen lake by his mini truck ! Wow what an experience, and great fun , catching large walleyes , for all of the guys gathered as they were to busy drinking warm booze and getting very joyous to say the least ! Best fish I ever ate , fried southern style ! To this day I can taste that fresh cold water fish and smile and remember the fun we had and the joy of enjoying that fish !

You were lucky. Like they say, 10,000 lakes, 1,000 fish.
Just a joke

Something fishy with this thread.:rofl:

From here in the upper Mississippi River valley. We love our walleye and perch.
