Fuel Issue

Time to start chasing small issues, now winter is here. I finished my build on my 68 Coronet with 426 Hemi and 4 Speed. Using the factory setup as close I could. Since getting it running , I have this issue, where after it sits for a few days, I can only get it started by putting gas in the carbs. I can pump the pedal all day long and never get gas to the carbs. You would think there would be enough gas in the carbs to fire it, it's like it is losing pressure in the gas line some where, I have gone over this a few times, and cannot find any problems that are obvious, or do I have an issue with the carbs ? I know as soon as I put gas in the carbs ,it fires. Any Ideas . Thanks

I had a similar problem with my 440. The fuel pump would lose pressure so there would be no gas from the pump to the carb. But if you have pressure at the carbs it could be the fuel in the carbs is losing its volatility due to the vents letting the fumes escape. This could degrade the ethanol blended fuels in just a few days to where your higher compression 426 may have trouble igniting weak fuel.

I know on the ones that used the 3 port filter/vapor separator from the factory they had a small spring loaded check valve in the gas tank where the vapor return line goes into the tank as that keeps a small amount of pressure on the line and keeps it from letting the fuel drain back imto the tank. I guess my next question is did it have the 3 port filter stock from the factory and are you using the stock fuel tank ? Ron
