440 engne-4150 carb-3/8" fuel line 1/4"return Clay smith fuel pump
Sigh, I thought from the fuel pump it would go to the regulator and then carb and the excess would go to the return fuel line back to the tank .

Below is a pic from the company where I got the regulator from and looks backwards to me...or am I wrong..

I haven't been around along time but I have never seen that set up before. I have always heard: Tank, filter, pump, reg, carb and excess in return line to tank.

Maybe we are both off our rockers?

On new vehicles, the reg is always on the return side as well, but I'd call the carb tech guys and check about your setup though. I too was under the impression that with a carb, you want the reg on the input side.

Isn't that what they have pictured? It looks like both bowels are being fed after the regulator and then they show an open line for return after feeding the secondaries. It photo looks backwards, like the feed side and choke are on the wrong side of the carb.

What's the other side of this carby look like? As Stumper said it's all arse about, going by the pic the excelerator pump is on the secondaries or is it on the primaries (or does it have two?)and the choke is on the secondaries.......or something to that effect.

Must be a set up for a right hand drive car? The basic layout looks correct though. Out of the regulator and into the fuel bowels, primary first and secondary, then the outlet for the return line after feeding both bowels.

Top pic is the (drivers side )

By turning it backwards (Bottom pic) is how I think this setup could work on my engine.
If I run it this way should the return line run from the bottom of the regulator ?

Why would you want it on the same side as the throttle linkage (steering column, master cylinder, etc..)?

Your setup looks right but I have never heard of a return line for a carbureted engine. This is not a hi pressure setup??

The bottom port (IN) of the regulator is where the fuel pump line should go. The side ones are for the fuel lines (OUT) to feed the carb bowls. The way the carb sits in the bottom pic would represent looking at the engine while standing on the pass. side fender looking at the motor. I am running dual quads now but this is how it was set up for my Demon 950/Indy 440-2 also. My reg. now is a different brand then you are showing but I have run the Holley style reg. before on many other cars. That is why I say the fuel pump line goes in the bottom port.

FATJACK is right your car most likely doesn't need a return line set up. I am well over 600hp and don't need one.
