Fuel return line

Alright guys is it necessary to run a fuel return line on my 440 or can I get by with plugging the return line (mechanical pump and Edelbrock carb)? What will happen if i do this? Thanks in advance!

Ummmm vapor lock, fuel overheating. Stuff like that.

Yea, the return line helps keeping the fuel cooler and recirculates the vapors back to the tank for cooling off.
