Future of NASCAR

Found this add (not mine) on CL, noticed that the seller claims these die-cast have an appraised value of $6,200 but he will let them go for an unbelievable low price if $3,800. Seeing this add made me I briefly reflect back on the good ol days of NASCAR.

Not to long ago a Winston Cup - Sprint Cup Ticket was like the golden ticket to the Willy Wonka chocolate factory. Most races were completely sold out and some tracks (Bristol) were on year long waiting list. Now the TV cameras don't even show the stands because they are empty and the sponsorship money is drying up. I'd be interested to see what ideas the brilliant Mopar minds can come up with that could save the sport.

My suggestion is go back to win on Sunday, buy on Monday and at least base the car's template on the car that's on the showroom floor.

Chrysler couldn't care less about NA$CAR, they left that three years ago.

NA$CAR started getting real greedy around the time Dale Sr was killed at Daytona in 2001. From that point, they priced themselves out of the realm of reality and people quit going to the races in droves. We used to go to Texas every year, but I haven't been in seven years. Daytona holds interest for me, but the rest of the season...meh! So what.

Been going to Talladega the past few years ...spring race. I go for the party and the experience of the atmosphere way more than the race. I am pretty much done with that however and I am pretty certain this will be my last year. Once I retire I won't want to spend $$$ on that again. The race part is OK but I really get more enjoyment watching it on TV after I have recorded it so I don't have to listen to the blithering IDIOTS the networks call "announcers" or endure the same commercials 500 times in the course of the race.
They actually tore down the entire back stretch grandstand at Talladega last year, wonder how many seats were in that section?

I still watch NASCAR, not as interested the last few years the Hendricks/Jimmy Johnson era
mainly because there's nothing better usually on &
anything about cars & especially racing, always has my interests

I'm more of a fair weather fan now, casual viewer like most it seems now,
attendance is way lower, costs are way higher...

It's just like most forms of racing now it's about cubic $$$'s & sponsor plugs,
the new SUPER TEAMS dictating winners & losers...

Boring good sleep/nap time, no product identification anymore,
just a bunch of cookie cutter cars, in multi car draft & gas mileage or tire conservation racing
& NO Dodge

But I won't attend races anymore, too long to get in, too long to get out, crappy parking,
too pricey for most spectators, can't see enough of the race from a seat &
way too many obnoxious loud drunks, to bring a date or the family...

I'm not a 20 something anymore...

I won't be going anytime soon,
not until & if Dodge/Chrysler ever comes back...

I wish Mopar/Dodge/SRT would get back into it,
so I could at-least route for someone or something with my specific brand loyalty...

I know wishful thinking...

I used to like watching stock car racing. You know, a real off the assembly line body-in-white that was turned into a race car. I don't know any place that does that any more.

Talledega is a good time. Camp out for free, watch the camping crowd. Then drive home when the race starts

Well if they keep having demolition derbys like last weekend, more people might go. Most go for the wrecks.
Then again the restrictions are going to start talking place again to prevent such races. Happens every time things start to get out of hand. Like NHRA...

I know I'll get some hate mail for this but I hope Nascar disappears for good!! It's a joke to me, back in the Petty days they actually drove Mopars, Fords and Chevies so you could root for your brand but now there's nothing left to root for. I really don't get it, it's like socialist racing where there's no loosers and the field is kept as level as possible so nobody can ever dominate? Then again I can't stand drag racing either because of all the time trails, what the point in dumping money into a car if you just have to match your time?????? Forgive me guys I just like the heads up let's see what ya got kinda racing.

It is not stock car racing anymore. Started downhill when they rewrote the rule book to GM's approval.

In my opinion drivers like Jeff Gordon was the beginning of the end. The drivers today seem more like boys than men. Nascar hasn't been the same for me since Davey Allison was killed. I was never a big fan of Dale Earnhardt but I have to say nascar was better with him racing. Earnhart was a great guy to hate but I do miss him. Nascar doesn't care about the little guy it's all about the big money.
It has become like Indy just not fun to watch.

Tony George ruined the Indy 500 with the IRL 28 and 8 rule. I went to 12 straight Indy 500 races and haven't been back since 1997. His attempt to protect IRL from CART ruined open wheel racing

I've lost interest in NASCAR for a lot of reasons, but chief amongst them is NASCAR used to be an every man's sport that focused on the cars, but now it's all about drivers who act like they are Hollywood celebrities. The every man aspect is gone, and with it the "win on Sunday..." connection, low prices, and fan support. Also, NASCAR completely lost focus on the fans who made the sport popular, i.e., southern guys and guys in general, and tried too hard to dilute the sport to attract women, African-Americans, Gays, and whatever other demographic they felt would boost their numbers.

Lastly, much like the NFL is doing now, they started gaining a reputation that the fix was in starting with Montoya (in the bid to attract Hispanics) to Patrick (to attract women) to Dale Jr. (to excite Earnhardt fans). Once the impression that NASCAR was favoring certain drivers and helping them along, I saw interest start falling away quickly.

NASCAR needs to get back to what it did best, which was a bunch of Joe Anybody's out racing cars that any other anybody could buy and drive.

yeah all about the dollar ..these cars have nothing to do with production cars..I've been a fan from the earliest days and todays "spectacle" is boring ..the races have become what others laugh about.. guys driving in circles ..they continually push "drivers" like Patrick who should have stayed in Indy where cars drive themselves..kids like Trevor Bayne who stumbled into a win at Daytona and has hit everything but the pace car since ..Jr. a class act person but for good or bad hes not his father ..its like a red carpet show rather than racing ..I stopped watching the NFL because of the "show" and I love racing but I fear NASCAR is next ..they brought racing to Madison Ave. but thats not where race fans are

Which would be called the Irony 500 since Challengers, Mustangs, and Camaros were from the start intended for use in sports car events and never in NASCAR. The mere thought of having Pony cars running in NASCAR would have been enough to get the heads of Mustang, Camaro, and Challenger enthusiasts to explode back in the 60s and 70s.

I don't even know why NAPCAR keeps referring to a Ford, a Chevy or a Toyota, when there is absolutely no difference in the cars, the only differences are the paint jobs, numbers and decals.
The drivers are all little robot like corporate spokes mouths.....with the exception of a couple of them who still have personalities and little fire in their bellies!
