Which is the right cap for a 67 coronet? Went to car show sat. and stopped to fill up with about 1/2 tank of fuel. opened cap and gas blew out on me. When I got home I checked the new cap which I had bought recently. It has a check valve which allows air to come in but don't allow tank to vent to atmosphere. I can only think that the fuel expanding and building pressure caused this and it had no where to go. The cap I ordered was a Stant #10646 I believe, I am thinking I need a vented cap so pressure builds it can vent to atmosphere. Can anyone shed some light on this? Service manual does not cover this that I can find. Thanks jts

Thanks Fran, I will try that. jts

Don't know when they went to non-vented caps, 68/69? The vent tube is that 3/4" tube that's by your filler neck. That's so when you fill your tank it doesn't spit back. My 66 is a slow fill because of all the bends, same as yours.

The way I am looking at it there is no other way for the tank to vent except through the cap. jts

i got the stant cap and removed the plastic vent out of it.works great on my 67 now.used to build presure like crazy with this ethanol fuel you get today.

Thanks everyone, I think I have it taken care of. jts
