OR, switching the octane grade only switched the gears on the pump price and pumped regular old "ethyl", but that's just my suspicious nature.
I assure you the Sunoco that I worked was checked by "Weights and Measures" periodically. They monitored the measurement of a gallon, the money tally per gallon and the octane rating per selection. It was a complicated pump if you ever saw the inside of one.
Man I miss that Sunoco 260. Texaco Firechief high test was like an instant tuneup back then too!
