Gas tank filler grommet- which end in?

Silicone grease would be correct answer. Helps protect the rubber as well.
Silicone grease in the grommet groove?
Use it in I.D. and filler pipe too?
Just googled silicone grease for gasoline….

FWIW…. I installed tank today, including the filler pipe and new grommet….
I read MANY threads about how much of a PITA getting the pipe into the grommet and tank. I guess i lucked out, slid right in with very little resistance. I think ill coat the outside of the grommet rim with the Permashield to be on the safe side….

I use denatured achohol when pressing anything rubber onto metal. Never heard of it in all my professional career. Tried it and wow you can push 5/16” line onto 3/8 nipple. You have to keep it wet because it evaporates quickly. I also put my donuts into a achohol gas bucket overnight to make sure it is compatible. Opening my shop door to the smell of gas and seeing a flood of gas on floor from a failed donut was really a scary experience. Something I don’t ever want again.
