The connection at my fuel sending unit on new gas tank and the wire from the old main harness are not the same. Can I splice a basic washer “circle” shaped type wire connector to the main line from harness and call it a day? I’d be concerned about sparks and fuel…
The sending unit is a screw thread type and looks to me like the main line is a plug without inner threads.

Yes, there are no threads in the connecting plug. I usually give them a little squeeze with pliers if I feel like it's too loose. I don't know about changing the plug though. May be a fire hazard if it sparks? That is something to consider and I just had to replace my tank sending unit because the original started leaking out of the insulator to that threaded post.

I think a squeeze would just crack the housing hmmmm

The original senders were threaded.

Gas tank and sender don't look familiar. Good chance it's not going to read properly anyway. You have some testing to do.

There is no power on that connection. Just reads the resistance of the sending unit. In other words nothing to create a spark.
