Any advice before I go look at this car? http://twintiers.craigslist.org/cto/5069977811.html

I don't think it has any of the interior parts besides the seats, and the dash looks destroyed. But if the body only has minimal rot, it seems like a decent start to a project. What would it cost to replace the entire interior of this car? Looking at Legendary Interior prices, it seems like quite a lot! I'd also want to convert it to 4 spd, so it's nice that it is already a floor shift car.

The bucket seats don't look original?

Not originally a big block car? Would that engine even fit with the small block K-member, what do I look for there?

Not sure what's going on with those spring shackles hanging down in the back...

I'm a MOPAR newb so please just list off everything I should look for :)

Seats are not original. Figure on around 1500.00 or more for the interior depending on what you fine some 72 buckets for. Dash pad is around 450.00
K-frame is the same for SB and BB.
Look for rust on the trunk and floor pans, quarters, rockers and deck lid and door seams.

A base charger would not have come with a 440 right?

Also, that steering wheel looks out of place?

It has a 73 front bumper and grille and rear taillights and the interior is trashed but it does have a big block and it looks like it has power Disc brakes.

I don't know where the fender tag would normally be, but in those pics I can't see if there is one, would it be behind the battery in the one picture?

I now see duct tape where a passenger side qtr window would be.

Also, looks like the rear glass doesn't have the reveal molding?

It has a 73 front bumper and grille and rear taillights

How different are the 72/73 front bumpers from one another? I wonder why someone would change that out...

Maybe the car was in a accident at one time maybe just a minor fender bender that's maybe why they got changed?? 71 72 front bumpers have a emblem in the middle of the bumper and have slimmer bumper guards 73 -74 have real fat ugly bumper guards not as nice if you did buy that car I have 2 sets of 71 72 bumpers if you needed.

Also has 73/4 rear tail lights. Tag should be on the inner fender well right above the battery. Can't really tell if it is there or not.

Ok looks like a decent car if the rust isn't bad. As stated seats and steering wheel are wrong ,fender tag is missing(but it's a base car so not much of a problem) the front grills and rear tail lights are 73-74 but the bumpers are correct!
The back window area looks good as does the roof ,so I would say as long as there's not tons of bondo it's a fair prices (he will probably take $1500 for it) I'm building a 72 now and I just did a correct 4 speed conversion cost a little over $4000 (you can get it cheaper if you don't buy all the little parts) figure seats $200-$350 door panels $300 for uppers and $200-$600 for lowers (used parts are deff cheaper. The car should have power disc brakes on the front being a 72 , also your tail light lenses are new (maybe they liked the newer ones better) I would buy the car if it were closer it's a good deal . Good luck with it and p.m. me if you have anymore ?'s I'll gladly help .

Ok, so the fender tag should be in the red box area I marked?

Sorry, I'm a Chevelle guy, just don't know Mopar's.

Yes the tag should be where you highlighted in red.
I can't tell if the front bumper is a 72 or 73/4 but those are defiantly 73/4 bumper guards.
Disc brake were an option in 72, standard in 73. Does have a disc brake master cylinder.

Ok, so I guess it is obvious a 73 was scavenged for parts at some point, maybe that's where the 440 came from...

Any Idea what the seats and steering wheel are from?

And I doubt the tranny doesn't go in reverse due to just a band adjustment, I should assume the tranny is wiped out.

Yea that's not bad but a lot more money if the charger does not have much rust I would go with that much cheaper, and can make it how you want it build it your way.

One of the factors is I want something drivable right out of the gates.

Does rear lower quarter panel rust like that point to a leaking back window/rotted pinch weld?

The big question is what is your end game? Is it to have an original car or a good driver? The car I bought was missing the interior. I bought seats from a 76 Dodge Aspen and interior panels from multiple 71-74 B-Bodies. Once they were all painted the same color, they all looked like they should be in there. Also, you can get a dash cap cover for $80 or so that'll work just fine. The only new stuff I used was carpet, headliner, and the dash cap.

I might be wrong, but I believe the 4-spd trans needs a different floor hump from the auto cars.

Immediately just a Mopar driver. Eventually restomod/Viper transplant (I know a guy putting 97 Viper suspension & drivetrain into a Belvedere, but not sure that is doable to a Uni-Body). I can't afford a true R/T, roadrunner, blah blah etc.

Well so far neither craigslist ad ppl for the chargers are getting back to me, so I guess I don't go look at them today. Probably will just look at the challenger today.

If it were me...I would go with the challenger...it is ready to roll..looks good...you could always 340,360 it cheepish or 383 440 it for more $$... in the end it will always be easier to sell any year e body than any 71 and up b body (in my opinion) .... some times I miss having an old smooth running 318...good on gas quiet clean....good luck with the hunt!
