Got to Replace The Brakes

So, it looks like I'm going to have to replace the proportioning valve and the lines on my 1974 Roadrunner. The big issue is whether or not to use a replacement line kit or just get a lot of brake line and fabricate new runs. I hate to buy a kit as I've already replaced the lines on the rear end, so I would be paying for a lot of new line that I don't need.

Any suggestions? What tools are needed to cut/flare the lines?

The biggest issue it seems these days is the quality of the flaring tool.

I did MUCH better with a swap meet $5 National Brass brand tool than a new one from the parts store. The new ones simply don't clamp the line as good and it slips out under the pressure of the "button".

Keep in mind that if you get stainless line, it will be MUCH more difficult to double flare.

I was the double flare champion back in high school and it was still kind of a bitch for me to fab the lines for my '66.

Find a good hydraulic shop they should be able to make lines.

I'm thinking of splitting the baby. A new valve is about $100, and I can get all the front lines for $70 or so. Then I can have a shop make me a new line from the valve to the rear end connector.
