Long story short, I woke up to my car's horn staying on constantly (at 2 am mind you). When I went down to the garage I noticed the horn button had popped off the center of the steering wheel and caused the horn to stay on. These buttons don't seem to go on very tight, so here is my question:

I never use the horn, is there any issue with just not connecting the wire coming from the horn ring to the steering column? Will I have any electrical issues associated to doing this? I'm not an electrical guy, so any advice would be great.

If I disconnect the wire and the button comes off again, I won't have the issue of this happening again.

Oh man i can almost hear the 2am horn blast. These horns are incredibly loud arent they?

There is no issue with the electrics if you disconnect it. Just wait though- right when you disconnect it you'll have someone in a Prius backing into you where you could have used it!

I'd say try to get that horn button on more securely.

haha, the half asleep response to it was priceless...there is a nuclear power plant about 20 miles from me and I thought it was the distress siren, freaked out for a second.

The only issue with securing it better is the amount of a "turn" after it's inserted into the notches on the trim ring. You literally have to turn it like 2mm in either direction for it to "lock" in place....the spring that holds it down as well has a smaller end and a larger end, maybe I'll try to reverse them. Should the larger end be on the button or on the steering column post?

A concern I have living in NY, is the damn inspection requirements...I think I need the horn hooked up to pass inspection.
