Anyone else finding it damn hard to buy a gun these days?

I just went to pick up a Beretta I bought last week, and the cases in the gun store I was at were about empty! The guy who works there told me he had gotten in 80 handguns the week before, and 70 of them were already gone! He went to do my background check, which usually takes about three minutes on the phone, and instead they took my information and told us they would provide a response within five working days! I asked him if this was the norm and he said yep. There are so many folks buying guns these days that it takes 4-5 days just to get a background check run!

We're going to a gun show this weekend. It's gonna be interesting to see what's even available.

No panic or shortage of anything around here. My closest friend has had a big indoor-range/store for over 25 years, and it's never been slower. He's actually worried about it. I believe, after several days, they can't delay your purchase any further.[nics check?]

I haven't noticed any craziness. But after I fell in love with a certain AK.. I found out how hard it is to find AKs in this country in general. Weird.

the anti-gun rhetoric of the political left does more to sell guns than any advertising can possibly do.

If you have your CWP they hand the gun over to you right then and there Zilla.

Bru beware the gun dealers, they are sneaky, they will keep the guns in the safe and the cases empty to make you think its time to buy, lol...

BUT I have noticed a spike in handguns and shotguns for some reason recently (nothing crazy). I have an appointment with a local shop Saturday morning, last week he called me to see if I had anything I wanted to consign because he was having issues keeping the cases full, (there not empty but he knows when guys are leaving with out buying, the right stuff isnt there) he specifically wanted shotguns and pistols. I emailed him a list of about 28 pieces that I don't consider part of my "real" collection and was thinking about unloading, he emailed me back that he wanted them all and would only charge me 5%!!! I have been in this game a long time and a quantity that large for 5% is a first. NOW, this may not be because they are hard to get right now, vs he may not be in the position to purchase a lot right now, which is fine with me I get free insured storage, and when something sells its a bonus...

I bought a collection of almost 40 pieces recently, kind of fell into my lap, a dealer offered this women $15K for the collection, so I get a call from a relative of hers and an old customer of mine that knows I am into firearms, so I go take a look. I met my "friend/customer" at the his aunts house so he can introduce me.

So I look at the collection and WANT it, I am figuring $30K minimum and that is a steal!! After some handling and complimenting her on how nice of a gun case they had, she said "do you want them?" I said "I think I do" she said "will you pay cash?" I said "I will", she said "today?" I said "right now" (I dont go to look at something with out cash on me in most cases), she said "$15K?" I said "certainly"!!!! DONE...

To top it off, she gave me, all her late husbands old reloading equipment, all his ammo, all his tools, his reloading bench, and the case!!!! AS WELL AS SOME OLD MOBIL and SUNOKO tin signs I asked about while we were there wrapping everything up. So I had no use for the case, it is beautiful, all hand made by a local cabinet maker they contracted to do it... I keep my guns in a vault, and that case would never fit through my 30" titan door. I put the case in one of the gun clubs with a for sale best offer sign on it, and sold it in 3 days for $7500!! It had a built in fire proof safe, custom glass work, 5 different hard woods, and 2 hidden spots that you opened with a specific movement that would blow your mind, I never seen anything like it!! In total after giving the club its share I cleared $9K from selling all the NON firearm items, all the reloading gear and cabinets, etc...

SO I kept the stuff I wanted out of it and I am going to consign the rest, I have bought many collections over the years, and I am pretty good at selling when the market is right. I have been going through gun broker and some other sights trying to come up with values for the stuff I want to sell, I figure I want to clear $45K for the 28 I separated, I wish someone would just buy them all but them days have come to a screaming halt, the 5% commission makes that route a lot more appealing...

So if you got extra stuff, I would look into pushing it within the next 6 months, unless its high cap or assault style weapons, then I would wait for hillary to be in office and get rid of them then... May want to start stocking up on brass now too, lol..

Did you decide on anything? Check out the XD in 357 sig, I was playing with a womens 4" at the club last week, what a nice gun, she and her husband are troopers and they were together at the club, she said he keeps stealing it from her, lol.. And he has a 229 in 357 sig which was always one of my favorite carries... so that says something, for half the money..

No problems here. Just bought one for my wife to carry from a gun show. I have my CHL so I got to carry it out and on the way out, I met a buddy in the snake bar and another guy had a Taurus .40 for sale dirt cheap. Yeah, they are cheap guns but the price was way better than cheap and it looked new so it also became mine. And the local pawn shops are well stocked....

I found out that's not necessarily the case. They can turn the gun over to you, but they don't have to. The parent company of this shop requires a three-day waiting period before transferring a handgun, which starts the day of a completed background check, even if you're a CCP holder, trading a gun in, or had the gun on layaway for more than three days. I told them months ago that's not what the state law says, and they said "We know. This is our company policy." That would normally be enough for me to take my business elsewhere, but this shop has some great prices so it's worth the inconvenience.

I just bought a 1944 Mauser P38 at this shop for $450. I got the appraisal back a couple weeks ago and it was $1,500-$1,700 with a no-sell/trade warning as it's expected to go up to the high $2,000's next year. I bought it primarily to use to trade for several other guns I wanted, but now I guess I'll hold onto it. The Beretta I just bought is one of those new 90Two pistols in .40. It was marked down to $250, and they're listing on GB for $500, so I snagged it so I could trade it for a Model 96.

One thing I'm having a bitch of a time finding is revolvers. My guy at the shop told me he has a dozen or so folks a week coming in looking for Smith & Wesson Model 17, 19, 27, 28, and 29s, and the minute they come in they are gone. I came a hair's breath from getting a Pennsylvania State Police Model 19 commemorative, in the case, for $600 but a dealer beat me to it and now he's wanting $900. :( Oh well...

I have an XD in .45. Great shooter plus hi cap mag for a .45. Beats the 8 in my 1911, but i still love the Gold Cup.

I was only shopping for a holster, I already bought a Sig P938. I love 1911's and it's designed just like one not to mention it's pretty conpact as well. I'm not a fan of most compacts they offer because of the long unpredictable trigger pulls they have as a result of the hammer being drawn on every pull. I did buy a holster though, sometimes simple is best so I bought an Uncle Mikes holster and love it.

I do think it's interesting that a lot of the guns that I am seeing for sale, aside from the Czech crap, is DAO police trade ins. These were supposed to be the end all for police, and now it looks like every department is dumping them and going back to traditional DA/SA pistols.

I'm seeing police trade-in DAO Sigs selling for $229!

THIS

If I had the money I would be. I don't really "need" any, and my health prevents me from having much fun with big bore handguns, anymore.

Mighty nice of you to take such good care of the trusting old widow.

I was fortunate to have my dad and brother both purchase DAOs and got to shoot at least half a dozen of them and thought..... this is exactly what I'm not buying. The other thing I don't like is double stack clips..... to fat for me. The downside to mine is it makes me nervous carrying one in the chamber so I just practice cycling the slide as I draw?

The only reason I have a hard time buying a gun is coming up with the money. The little gun shop down the hill from me has full displays of damn near anything you want if you are rolling in $$$$. I guess I'm just getting old, I remember when I could afford good quality new firearms.

Two things we're not short of down here is gun shops and old people. We have lots of gun and pawns that heavily advertise that they buy guns, and lots of old people means gun owners die off, leave their guns to folks who know nothing about them, and they sell them to gun and pawns that usually know little more than the sellers. That's how I was able to get such a great deal on that P38.

Plenty of guns available here in Georgia...and no wait if you have a Georgia concealed weapons license. Gotta love the South. I've recently purchased a Walther PPS to go with my PPQ M1. I'd like an AR, but cant justify the price to the ol' lady.
