So I posted this in an old thread but due to its age its not getting a whole lot of traffic so I wanted to start anew and ask if anyone has used Sharps rebuilt service? I know they say the inspections start @ $130 and go up from there, what has been the typical experience/ cost?
"Ok, so I received my 2nd hand 1.5 Sharps today, I saw that they were delivered and couldn't wait to see them... Ive wiped them down inspecting each and as I guessed there are a couple of issues and wanted to see what you guys thought... Overall I'm pretty pleased in my $100 investment...
All in all they appear to be in very good shape, one rocker has a small gouge on the bottom I'm assuming from the shaft not being shimmed correctly.... Also there are wear patterns on the sides of a few which again I think it was a shimming issue. There is 1 spacer that looks like they had put it on a grinder...??? The worse part is one of the shafts is bent starting at the middle mount???!!! I have no idea how that could of happened as the shafts show little wear but I will need a new one and also plan on buying the sharp shaft clamps & shims... All of the bearings and rollers look to be in great shape... I was taking them apart I found two slivers and I can't tell if they cam off of the rockers or just some trash....Its not magnetic so I'm guessing it's aluminum...hell it might be tinsel from a xmas tree for all I know...
So my question is do I just buy new shafts/ spacers/shims and roll with it or should I send them to Harland to be inspected and rebuilt???? Remember I'm poor boying this as much as possible!!! Any recommendations would be appreciated! "
