Hawkrod 'RoadKill' Cross Country Trip 2022

In 2015, @MarPar came up with some lame excuse not to see us when I did the trip in my 70 Road Runner. This year, he said something about needing to clean his toilets tonight, so we missed him again. I guess we are chopped liver and not steak... (hee hee  )
Seriously: Sorry we missed you Mario. Maybe on our next trip!

Well, if i ever get more than a 2 hour notice from Paulie @zyzzyx , maybe I would be able to make it!! :poke:

Wish I would have been able to meet ya today (again lol). Vaya con Dios and good travels my friend!

That doesn't look like it would be too comfortable on the ball sack.

Ok, I can't throw Paul under the bus for this one. Timing worked out last minute so I sent him a PM just a few hours before we got there.

We don't plan very well - we just drive!:lol:

Seat of the pants, that's what it's all about!

I’m sure Ohio is in the intinerary. Currently at the Summit mothership.

Today we visited the Auburn, Cord, Dusenburg museum in Auburn, In.

Oh my god.

Look, first and foremost I am a Mopar guy. But in general, I'm a car guy. But these pre-war luxury cars were just over the top. They were simply amazing. When looking at them up close, the quality and craftsmanship is second to none.

We arrived late to the museum and had limited time. The displays were so cool we decided to delay our drive to the Ford museum by a day to go back and check it out more thoroughly tomorrow.

If you are ever in Auburn, IN you need to check out this museum. Well worth the visit.

I know pictures won't do them justice, but here are a few shots.

I'll try to get some pictures of a few more of these cars tomorrow. Most of the pictures above are of some of the oddities, but the mainstream cars were just astounding.

@HawkRod
That era, and those brands especially, were the true renaissance of what an auto could be - and many of the modern
engineering features still in use today were first developed by them - true "money is no object" engineering, styling
and construction.
I've always been in awe of such cars. What an amazing stewardship it would be, owning one!

I agree, those old cars were just amazing. Another time that seems alien to today. You need to go through the packard museum in downtown Dayton. I took my 16 yo daughter and she really enjoyed it as did I.

Gilmore Museum, Hickory Corners, Michigan.

You'll need at least a full day to do it justice. More chrome and works of art than you've ever seen in one place in your life.

Right next to the Auburn, Cord, Dusenburg museum is NATMUS (National Auto and Truck Museum of US).

Some amazing cars in that collection too, including some rare Mopars.

Fantastic pictures and lots of history. Amazing what the auto industry has been able to put on the road. Once again thank you for your time and patience to allow everyone to ride alongside on your road trip.

SO THAT'S WHERE that Ball Stud Barracuda ended up. That used to be Tom Hoover's car before he passed away.

Here is a shot I took of that car in 2006 at the Chrysler's at Carlisle show. He was still around back then and was there with the car. Unfortunately, I only took this one photo of the car back then.

I know Tom got the car new & owned it through the 70's, 80's 90's & sometime in the early 2000's he sold it on Ebay & Aruzza bought it & put the Ball Stud Hemi in the car... Cool car with cool history, cool engine with cool history, not sure they belong together... I'd rather see Tom's car as Tom kept it... & the Ball Stud Hemi would be cool in practically any Mopar from that time frame..

Yes, and thank you both for stopping and visiting this time around! I know you both have been
putting alot of miles on and for you to drive down from Cheese Town wasn't easy with the traffic.
Maybe next trip I can escort you through a few states in the Midwest!

The Chrysler Firepower concept car was incredible, I would have bought the first one off the line had they ever put it into production.
