Which size header would you guys recommend for 426 hemi stroked to 496
with stage V custom heads and stage V intake? this will be a street driven car 69 bee with power steering and 3:91 gear
with 4 speed. I see 2 1/8” and 2 1/4” tube sizes.

2-1/8 stepped is what I run on my 383 stroked 496. And it's probably overkill for mine that is purely street driven.

Can you add more details on what car, heads your using, brand of headers and how is the fit with them.....

Sorry for the highjacking your post

I don’t mind at all any header info here is welcomed. Someone else will need to know it one day and here it will be.

On the low deck 383, the 2-1/8 stepped required 1 Accel shorty header spark plug, ceramic plug boots to keep from melting, boot/wire covers to again keep from melting, head bolts instead of studs for clearance.

Either one will be fine with a 496" hemi. You might find a small difference (in favor of the 2 1/4) on a dyno, i doubt that you could feel the difference in the drivers seat.
Is there any difference in the collector size?
I have two cars, maybe three, that have "too big" exhaust. I cant say i ever noticed any loss of performance. I rode, and raced, in a friends 440 duster that had 2 1/4 pipes into a 4"collector, four inch pipes back to a necked down 2 1/2 turbo (3" stuff was uncommon at the time.) It did not lack torque because of too big exhaust.
I would lean toward the bigger pipes. You might have better access around the motor with the smaller pipes.

I would go even smaller than 2 1/8 but no one makes them. (So I'll be making some myself)
