I am planning on putting a 400 in my Roadrunner. I know it's is a stupid question. Should I run my headers and exhaust before I put the 400 in first????? Or wait till my engine us in place to ocomemder for spacing.

put them in same time but the headers should be loose,
not on the engine nor bolted, just off to the side in the engine bay.
youll never get the d side on if you dont/steering box.

think of it like this, youll need 2 people at least to hold the headers in the engine bay while you manuever the engine.
when you get the motor close to the mounts, then start finagling them onto the motor header studs/bolts,when they are on,then drop the motor the rest of the way and bolt everything up.

also, before you put your motor in,go get a high torque starter off a dakota or pickup truck at your local junkyard.
its way smaller and way better and doesnt carp out due to the high heat like stock old ones will.
much easier to get at too.
cheers.

First, I didn't remove the K member and reinstall that way. My 400 went in from the top. That said, I had to put the headers in after the motor was in due to the steering box. it's a 69 charger. It wasn't easy at all. mini high torque starter only way to go for sure. I also had to unhook some steering linkage to get headers in. They are long tube as well. As I said it wasn't easiest thing to do, but take your time and look and don't get frustrated if you can help it. Good luck

Generally speaking, you should be able to install the passenger-side header without a problem. The driver's side you likely will have to install afterwards due to the steering gear.

One problem I had was my engine used studs, and I left them in. It was impossible to get the driver's side header in place with studs, and I had to remove the studs and replace with bolts for that side... and removing studs once the engine is in was a major PITA.
