Anyone able to tell me what trans and engine are in this? Father in-law bought it brand new in 64. To my knowledge it is a matched car but something doesn't look right. He says he never swapped any parts and it came with an A833. The floor board near the shifter looks like it was cut with a torch to make room for the shifter hump, in other words looks like a modification.

Looks like a Polara 500 built at Hamtramck plant.

Is the VIN 6442******?

If yes, the transmission code is A/3 indicating a four speed.

3 under the A, (A being the transmission option for the Hamtramck plant) should be the last number in the option which is 833

My 64 four speed was the same and yes I believe they were cut with a torch from the factory.

My grandmother's car doesn't have a fender tag, or I can't find it. She bought it brand new. Am I to assume that not all cars have one?

Well, considering the TS was speaking of a 1964 Polara, I assumed I didn't have to specify the year or model. That's what I get for assuming.

1964 Polara.

It's all good!

There should be one on top of the driver's side, inner fender. I've heard of one missing because of having extensive body repair and the components were replaced. I've never known of one not being there from the factory. A lot of the time someone removed it to do the research on it and never placed it back on. There will be two screw holes where it use to be.
