As part of establishing a baseline for when basic maintenance has been done. I'd like to replace the coil, rotor, and plugs . More so that I know when they were last done.
Do you folks have a preferred vendor ?
thank you

What are you working on? While I support vehicle maintenance I also believe in the saying "if it isn't broke don't fix it". Change the oil, sure and if it isn't running well then change plugs, rotor, cap, etc.

But to your question;

Plugs - many prefer Champion as I normally do. I have tried a wide variety and seem to always come back to Champion.
Rotor - no preference, usually get Standard
Cap - no real preference, usually get Standard

Typically I go to the parts store and see what they have, if there is an option I will get the better or best available.

Send your money to me. I'll gladly spend it.

You want to track tuneup? They have these neat little things called notepads and these odd sticks that Mark on the notepads that can be put in the glove box.
KISS rule.

I wouldn't change the coil.
Rock Auto works pretty well for that type of stuff.

Slap Stick beat me to the punch on the cash.

If I can find Standard Motor products or the old Blue Flame products at the local stores, that’s what I use for the cap and rotor.
Champ plugs, what the factory issued normally last a couple of year without issues.
For spark plug wires on the in general ride, the parts store wires are fine. The hot rod gets cut to length MSD wires.
IF I’m near a dealer or in it for some reason, I’ll ask for a cap and rotor.

Yeah, Blue Flame was a Shebby 6 banger...

There is a Blue Flame coil for moorsickles.

Seeing your other thread, you inherited a 'gorgeous' Coronet from your father-in-law? Reckon you might know what sort he was for keeping the car up himself, or having it serviced, or did it sit for years? As posted, if it's running nice not smoking, (bad habit) no engine misses, etc. no visible indication of skanky issues...wiring, hoses, significant leaks...I'd change the oil, check trans fluid and what it looks like (in case it appears it should be changed), do a lubrication on the front end, check the brakes, maybe flush the radiator/block if coolant looks crummy or stinks, clean/gap the plugs and drive it until ya find there's some problem. Other early check is how it steers/drives in case its in need of alignment or something needing attention sooner than later.

When you get done with the tune up this lady can help you spend some of it.

Seriously though, it's a great car and a wonderful new path in life! Welcome aboard Dakar! (My daughter's dad's last name was Timm too.)

Flush the brake fluid. Nobody does this and it will extend the life of the system with clean fluid.

Keep the old coil that it has, it’s better than what the parts store sells as a replacement.

yes you have a beautiful 66 Coronet convertible, Enjoy it!

Perhaps a little explanation might help . I'm an industrial mechanic by trade . I firmly believe in preventative maintenance . I make a pretty good living spinning a wrench because some folks don't believe in taking care of things .

We have a garage full of bikes and a few boats that we try to maintain . Nothing is more humbling on the side of the road at night in the rain because you weren't willing to make the time or spend the money . Some other forums are supported by advertisers with links to the site. If that was the case here .I'd rather spend the money supporting this forumn
