Hemi Duster Donated to Jay Leno

jay leno has enough cars...AND SOMEONE GIVES HIM A HEMI?...unreal. i guess money really does go to money!

While the owner wanted to donate it - Jay did pay for the car - but they agreed to donate the money for it to a technical college for a scholarship for auto techs. He and Jay worked together at a dealership. It is a cool story.

One things for certain, It did find a great home with a caretaker that can and will handle it... He does have quite a collection, this is one thats a beauty... He had Overhawlin do a 56 Nomad for a guy that works for him, Real cool show.. I like his acting to "Collision course" great flick and ill bet it was his 56-58 Vette in the movie!

I'd really like to see how that blown Hemi Duster would match up against some of the other much more expensive and exotic cars in Jay's garage! I bet it would put a lot of those Ferrari's and Lambos of his to shame - at least in the 1/4 mile...

I was thinking that before I even opened this thread.

Unlike a lot of clean hands rich guy collectors, Leno is actually knowledgeable about his cars and works on them when he has time. He's good for putting a positive spin on our hobby. IMHO.

yes i know this...Jay Leno was a Porsche mechanic before he got famous. i wasnt knocking him...i just couldnt believe what i heard. the man has well over 100 cars and i think even more motorcycles. i would have given it to a mopar museum or something where more people could see and enjoy it. i know it will be well taken care of !

Interesting story. I think Jay has done and will do the right thing. You know that at some point (hopefully a long ways down the road) that Jay won't be able to take the cars with him, so it's very possible there will be a museum erected in his name. Not trying to start rumors, but what do you do with 100+ cars?

I never thought much of Jay Leno as a host, but he's great when it comes to appreciating cars. I'll be killing tons of time watching this and every other video on his collection, thanks for the link!

Gotta think- who would I give my Charger to in the twilight of my years?

Cool car

Jay Leno is one of the only late night talk show hosts I can even tolerate, I love his car collection, very eclectic/diverse... I love the Chrysler Turbine cars, any real Mopar fan probably would, is my guess...

I agree.. I can see them, someone doing this, He does have some great cars in his collection..

Nice story. At least it went to someone who will really appreciate it, both as the great car that it is and as a symbol of a good friend. It's where the man who built it wanted it to be. I can't say that I know Leno but years ago, I went to the Hershey meet every year. We had spots that were shared among three of us. I took whatever I wanted to sell, my buddy had Mustang speakers reproduced and sold 'em there, and there was a lady who sold tote bags made from old jeans. My buddy's son had the best wagon around and hired out to haul parts for people. He made a lot of money too. I can remember Leno stopping by to hire Scotty to haul some parts for him. While he was waiting, he flopped down in one of our chairs, had a soda and bought a tote bag. He wasn't nearly as famous at the time. I know he came back at least a couple more years and he was always fun to be around. We always had one of the places where you could sit and chat when you got tired. Leno wasn't the only celebrity that stopped by. We sure had some good times there. Every time I hear Leno's name or see him on TV I think about those good times at Hershey.

Leno is a true car guy and has the means and will give the car the respect it deserves.
