unplugged switch and still back feeding from somewhere
pulled all fuses and still power, thinking issue is positive short at body plug

anyone ever experienced this??

Experienced a starter that wouldn't disengage after the engine was started....but never head lights.

Sounds like you need to do what I'm doing and slowly start replacing each wire one at a time.

Is this original wiring?

When you say 'unplugged switch', do you mean the large connector on top of the headlight switch in the dash or the floor dimmer switch or what?

Are all 4 headlights (high beams) on, or just 2 headlights (low beams)? Can you switch back and forth with the floor dimmer? This will clue us in on where the crossfeed is located. If the lights change with the floor dimmer, then the crossfeed is inside the car, not in the bulkhead connector.

The headlights don't feed via the fuse block so ignore that. The main power into the inside of the car from the battery via the fusible link goes to a welded splice in the harness and one wire from that feeds the headlight switch.

Typically, power feeds through the switch to the floor dimmer and on to the head lights. BUT, in this car, there are relay circuits for the electric headlight doors between the headlight switch and the floor dimmer. The headlight 12v from the headlight switch activates that relay. So that is another good area for this problem.

Check the connector on the headlight switch for shorts, and and let us know if the floor dimmer still controls the selection of high or low beams (2 or 4 headlights) in this condition.

Donwload you car's wiring diagrams at mymopar.com; it will have wires colors for you to trace out and to help keep us on the same page.

I should have added yes even unplugged dimmer switch. all four headlights are on at same time

I ended up checking it at the bulk head under the hood, problem is definitely under the dash.
long story short he took the car home and was trying a different headlight switch which didn't help
but he said he did find a sketchy looking wires and when he moved/pulled on them the headlights
went out.. so he is repairing them today..

I told him he better be sure at best he will have a dead battery at worst he will look out
and see is garage on fire with the car along with it..

thanks for the replys

could have the same demon that Christine had

IMO... it's time to pull the whole harness apart and inspect. If there are a few 'sketchy' wires, then there could be more anywhere. Once the 12V shorts to one wire and starts the heating/melting process, the heat can effect all sorts of wires anywhere.
