How many of us drove muscle cars when they were new, recently purchased off the dealer's showroom floor? Post your experiences here:

Personally, I took my first driver's license practical (driving) test in a new 1971 Road Runner 383 automatic my parents just bought. Air grabber, spoilers, G60-15 Polyglass GT, rallye rims, Bahama Yellow. Then I drove it to high school every day for two years as a junior and senior (50 mile round trip to a private school). It was sold to a friend/neighbor when I graduated from high school ($2,000). Chick magnet? Never had a girl in the car (except for a sibling).

Today, I drive a '72 Bahama Yellow Satellite Sebring Plus (see foto), which seems identical to the new '71 RR I will never forget.

P.S. I know you all won't listen to me, but please try NOT to post here unless you really drove a NEW pre-1980 B-Body. Thank you.

The ONLY new car I ever bought was my '69 Road Runner. Ordered it new when I got home from Viet Nam. Watched it roll off the transporter. Drove it home a couple of days later (had to wait for it to be "prepped"). Boy that was a long wait.

I bought my first -new- car in 1969. It was an orange Superbee -383 4sp bench seat fresh air hood.
At 19 with a job making $1.25 per hr. it was tough. I wanted to order the hemi but the salesman talked me out of it. He had this car on hand and convinced me that I could not afford the car I wanted.--He was right. In fact after 11 months and 36 thousand miles I had to let it go back to the finance company as an even walk away. It was hard to walk away from that car.
This is the only pic I have of that Bee.
Hmm--does this car still exist??

My first showroom floor purchase was my 76 Cordoba. Got tired of a 71 Fury that I had. That Cordoba was red with a white vinyl top with a sunroof and white leather interior. Miss it to this day.

3 color choices out of 5 Bee’s just off the transporter when I was 19. Took one of 2 red ones, didn’t even think about looking for a ‘tic-tach’ or other options I was just too excited. Then 6months r so later I was at same dealer when the first 6-pak came off the truck, excitement all over again.

So since I'm a youngin I wasn't able to get a cool new car like you guys ! My first car was a 74 charger 318 grandma special !
My first new car was a 2006 Mitsubishi eclipse s gt v6 6 speed 263 HP 260 ftlbs of torque 4 wheel independent suspension it was a freaking beast I beat the hell out of that rice rocket! It smoked many cars in my town. But the charger even though it was slower still got the respect! And if they really wanted a race my high 11 sec trans am would handle it ! Those were the days much simpler no wife more cars then I knew what to do with ! No bills ! I wants go back to high school!!!!

In 1974 I traded in my 1969 Ford Galaxy 500 XLT for a '74 Charger SE Brougham. The dealership owner had special ordered it for his wife with nearly every option available but when it arrived the woman did not like the car. Remember this was back when gas was expensive for the day and muscle cars were a NO NO.... If memory serves me right I gave $3400 for that car and used the savings to fill the gas tank a bit more often.

That is the only car I ever owned that I wished I had kept. Several years ago I tried to locate it to see if buy back was possible but never succeeded. A year ago I found an almost identical car that had spent it's life in Las Vegas so there was very little rust to contend with. I don't have the $$$$$ to do a 100% restoration but will get as close as possible to what I had. Progress is slow but it is happening. Maybe another year or so to completion.

This is what I had.

This is how it's replacement sets today.

This is where I'm hoping to end up!

First new Mopar I ever drove was the first brand new car my Dad ever bought, a 1970 Plymouth Valiant 4 door slant 6. By the time my two younger brothers and I (Dad contributed) were gone from home, my Dad traded what was left of it to some Mexicans for a concrete pad big enoUgh for a storage shed! I think the only useable part on the car was the roof and the glass! Dad got broadsided by a city bus, I sprung the driver door by backing into a tree with the door open, one brother got stuck in the boonies and had it pulled out by a D-9 Cat, the youngest brother just kept running into stuff. But hey, that leaning tower of power never gave up!
