Greetings...

I just bought a Holley 750 cfm Ultra Double Pumper, (Manual Secondary & Manual Choke) together with a Holley 106-70 Heat Shield.

Before I begin installation, I noticed the inner bore of the heat shield appears to be a little small to accommodate the clearance, I would think is required for the lower open/close workings of a 4150 carb.

In addition, I suspect I will have to custom cut this shield, to ensure the full movement of attached linkage.

These are not the type of thing(s) a person should have to do, coupling a Holley Heat Shield with a Holley Carb, but heh.... stranger things have happened.

Do any FBBO members have any tips they would like to share with me, before, I start grinding on this heat shield?

Thank-you In Advance

You may have to modify "a little" but not much. Had one yrs ago and it worked good.Linkage clearance is kinda carb specific.

I think that heat shield was originally designed for a 60s era Holley (I know Chevy factory installed them on a couple motors) and considering all the current variations in Holleys now - I'm not surprised it might need a bit of trimming for an Ultra double-pumper. You are still way ahead of the trimming I had to do on the Mr. Gasket heat shield units I installed on a Holley dual quad Ford 428.

I run a heat shield also. I use a 1" Phenolic spacer which helped the linkage clear and I did have to modify it just a little. Ron

Just finished installing new carb and heat shield. Scribed and cut inner bore of gaskets and heat shield to match square bore configuration, as per your advise. Also had to cut a semi-circle at back of shield to create better clearance for the rear intake manifold vacuum hose. Turns out, the linkage was no problem. She's good to good :) Thx.
