Hey Guys
The hood that came with my 72 Charger had a pro stock hood scoop on it. I have picked up another flat hood but would eventually like something different. I picked up a 73 Roadrunner hood for $75 which I thought was a good deal. I know I could attempt to graft the hood scoop onto my charger hood but am not sure how to deal with the ridge that runs down the center of the Charger hood. My other option was to try to get a 71 or 72 header panel from a Roadrunner and try to install on the Charger. I'm not sure exactly how to do it. You can see by the pictures that I am a long way off from putting a hood on as it has taken over 3 years to get to this point. But I am hoping to paint the engine bay soon if I can get a warm enough day and was wondering if any modifications would have to be done to the radiator support if later I attempt to try the header panel. They say if there's a will there's a way and I am willing.
Thanks for your replies.

That would be interesting to see how it looks. I've seen the Challenger R/T hood grafted onto the Charger hood and looks awesome.

If that 73 hood is rust free, its worth more than 75 bucks, so good score on that. I sold a rust free 74 hood for 10 times that much 3 years ago.

I wouldn't cut up a good hood either... If it's rusted out... Then have at it.

As to the ridge on the charger hood, you would have to cut it and pound it down and then re-weld it...

IMHO, I would think it easier to graft the roadrunner bulge onto your flattened charger rather than extend the the road runner hood for three reasons:

1) the roadrunner hood has the extension of the light bulges running into it which will be impossible to resolve against the almost flat top of the charger loop bumper.

2) the structure for the charger hood is already there underneath the skin which will make the hood stiffer than grafting the header panel from the roadrunner on to the end of the roadrunner hood.

3) assuming you graft the hood buldge from the roadrunner hood on to the charger hood, you won't have that much ridge to make go away.

If successful it might look like an RT hood but shorter and with cool scoops:

I think it would be cool to make it look like a big shaker hoodscoop and do a reveal edge around the graft..... Just thinking.

Keep us posted with pictures please of whatever you end up doing.

I just got a stock 68 coronet hood off a guy last week. He also had a 71 super bee hood for sale. I didnt catch the price on it, but i still have his number if you are interested. Not sure how far you want to travel for one either. He is in northern MD close to 95

I have a 2" cowl hood or a regular power bulge hood for sale. The cowl hood would be pretty reasonable......

hoods...

I agree that grafting the one onto the other makes sense because of the frame underneath and a lot less to make right. Your not to far from me. There's a couple of hoods that are here in Vermont. They can be had for peanuts.

What kind of hoods are available in Vermont? I may be interested if its not too far from my house.

Vfn fiberglass makes all kinds of fiberglass 3rd gen charger hoods. They are around 400 bucks per hood and for an exta 40 bucks they'll toss in some special hinge springs for the fiberglass hood.
