Bringing this back to the top.... Anyone planning to attend in 2023? Is the Mopar gathering at A&W gonna happen on Friday... I won't be signing up for the official show but I might make it to A&W if it's gonna happen... Coral wants to drive up in the morning, take the grandson to lunch & check out a few cars.... Then head home...

I make it every year but have never taken the Charger. I have no reasonable explanation as to why. I've driven it much further than that several times before.

Well I've taken the Green car a few times & the Red one's first time there was 88 or 89 & was present every year until I sold it in 95... So this will be its first time back during HAN...

You should bring Ginger, She'll fit right in...

What is the routine?
I'm guessing that when you have an entry sticker attached to the car, you're allowed access inside everywhere people gather to show their cars?
I've never entered a show like this. I've only been a spectator. I drove the car there in 2003 but wasn't registered as a participant. I hated trying to find parking for a car that would really SUCK to get a door ding.

Only time I entered the official show was worse than being outside the show... There are small gatherings all around Reno/Sparks/Carson City/Virginia City like the Mopar get together at A&W that you don't need to be part of the actual HAN event to attend.. You can come & go as you please...

The official show they assign you a place to park, if your lucky you get a good spot, they positioned me/my car in Sparks on a corner, seems cool but what happens is now lots of folks who have zero investment in your car are walking past it, in my case having a luggage rack lots of folks were using it as a grab point and kinda tugging on it as they swiveled around the corner.... I had a woman smoking a cigarette drop/flick ashes in my interior twice... Another woman bounced her camera off my 1/4 panel... Then the topper was the two teenagers who thought my hood/front fender looked like a seat... The first time I asked them politely, the second time I was a little more forceful.... The third time Coral went full pit bull on their asses... Then I decided it was best we GTFO there.. When we got back to the Peppermill there was all sorts of stuff was going on.. Turned out it escalated to a riot, a couple cars got flipped... A couple people got shot... All sorts of crazy happened.. It turned out many of the people who came into Reno that year were San Jose gang bangers... No connection to the car scene, just knew it was a big street party...

And it had been... But it sure isn't the same anymore... Back in the eighties Casinos had huge buffet tables out on the street in front of the casinos, all free, Tacos, Aram sandwiches, Chicken wings all sorts of snacks... And drinks... You could walk down the middle of Virginia Street with a beer & the cops didn't bother you... Hell out at the old original A&W the cops blocked the street so a blown BB Camaro on Alcohol could do a big burnout...

Times have changed, it's still a great time, just stay away from the most crowded areas...

Personally these days I prefer to show up Wednesday or Thursday & be gone early Saturday morning before it gets stupid...

The A&W in Reno is no more, but they moved it to somewhere else in Sparks. I'm sure cr8crshr or one of the other locals will jump in with details.

I'll be there .Been going for several years as my oldest son lives there. Far as I know they still meet at the Sparks A&W. I'll probably there but in my boring mini van.

I'm coming in on the 2nd until the 6th. Last year was my 1st year at this event and I had a great time as a spectator. After talking with various participants I came to the same conclusion as @1 Wild R/T that spectating is a better time. I might drive one of my Mopars but the wife is lobbying for the comfort of the Vette. I have a buddy that auctioned off a car last year who may trailer another one down for auction this year. If so, I'll probably ride shotgun with him and the wife will ride with her sister. We'll see how it plays out.

I have a buddy at the north end of town that drives his GTX into town one night. Last year he gave brother-in-law and me a ride that started with setting off several car alarms coming down from the Circus Circus parking garage, then blasting around town, convincing brother-in-law that he was going to jail. I giggled like a school girl. Reminded me of being 18 again.

I'll have Sparks on my radar this year.

We usually go downtown on Saturday for the show and then the cruise that night. Always have a good time. Too funny cause I always park in the Circus Circus garage. Always hit the swap meet but the last couples years it's had a low vender turn out and a lot of them selling non-automotive stuff.
If I was to enter a car I don't know if would put it in the show field but would do the cruising. I'd do downtown over Sparks for either. The downtown show field is more car friendly. The Grand Sierra and the Atlantis have a better layout too I think. The year that 1 Wild R/T put his car in was probably one the worst years for problems there. It is usually pretty tame.

Thing is back in the 90's it was a 2-3 day show, now it's a week long so people/cars come & go... We attended the year after the riots, drove the daily driver, there were definitely still trouble makers in the crowd but cops were prepared... The broken window rule continues to work... Jump on minor infractions, but be nice while doing so, and the big problems never occur...

Back when I entered my car the official cut off was 1969.... My car is a 1970.. But it was built in 1969 and they had already taken my money... I think their jab back at me was putting me in Sparks...

Last trip there forced me to do the EFI. 100 degrees at 5k feet didn’t do much for the 850 Demon.

I live here. I know that on monday, if you are in town, the Atlantis is a free to all event. The rest of the week your car must have a windshield sticker. As for the A&W Friday event, I will get back to you guys. The Battle Born Mopars car club meets the first Monday of the month at the only A&W left in town. It is in Sparks. Also if you guys are here that Monday night and want to come say hi the meeting is at 7pm. For anyone coming to town that week if you need anything let me know. Lastly, the Virginia City HAN show is July 28 and 29th if anyone is looking for a drive to the area. More to follow....

I’m not entering my car in HAN but will probably be at A&W on Friday. If any of you come to town for the event and have any car troubles, you’re more than welcome to use my garage and tools.

Message me and I’ll share my number.
