I currently have my dash removed doing a Ralley dash conversion! Should I rebuild or replace heater box. Was working fine? Hard to rebuild? They make a kit?,where to purchase? Or just not worry?

Detroit Muscle Technologies makes a great kit and since you have your dash out you should go ahead and take a look at the box and make sure your heater core is good to go,you do have to open it up to install the core so I would say do the whole box. Just take lots of photos of all your vacuum lines, doors, linkages, and seals when you take it apart ,I mean everything! I did mine with one of their kits and it was a great kit. I did mine because my heater box was broken where the heater blower mounts into the box and since they are made of fiberglass I fixed it up it turned out like new.Good luck.

Its pretty simple to overhaul. I just did mine. I got a kit from DMT. It was about $70 for memory. I got some paint from the auto store and had my cores pressure tested and flushed (if you have ac and want to change from R12 to R134a) $100 budget should cover it. If you are doing it though, you should check heater hoses, water valve, TX valve, heater hose connectors etc. There are a lot of things that can go wrong after 40 years. Good luck

The kits cost is different depending on if it's an ac box or not ,I give $99 for the big box ac kit.

Also, Jim's instructions and photos are good too. As stated, TAKE LOTS OF PICTURES. You'll be glad you did

Tip- Careful with handling that box.

Seems like it's a fiberglass/bakelite hybrid.

Real easy to crack and/or knock a chunk out of.

X2... cracks really easy, watch especially around the fastener points.
