How hard will it be to change the power steering unit?

I'm having the same thoughts, and just pulled out the May 2015 issue of Mopar Muscle where they installed a Borgesen unit in a 71 Satellite small block. Doesn't look too bad, but then again its a tiny motor car. Us big block guys migth have more issues, and might need to tilt the motor over for extra room, or at least that's my impression while analyzing this. Battery tray needs to come out for more room.

I recently installed and removed a replacement power steering box from Steer and Gear in a big block from below.
It was a little tricky by myself working on a creeper, but it does work. Didn't have to remove anything.

are you talking about the pump or the steering gear box.

x2

I unbolted the pittman and moved the drag link out of the way. I installed a steer and gear stage 2 two years ago.

edit: I have factory exhaust as well.

I switched from manual to power box from underneath without any problems, I do have factory exhaust though, headers might be a different story.

Headers might get in the way but shouldn't be too bad. Maybe a little cussing involved but not on an epic level!

Saving up for a firm feel stage 2 or the Borgeson, If I can get it out the new one should go right in. How do I know if the sector shaft is 1-1/8" or 1-1/4"?

The most important thing is.. make sure you have a quality socket with a snug fit on the 3 bolts holding the box on the k-frame.

I had to raise the motor up on my 72 Coronet to get the steering box out Last year 318 car with stock headers

The bigger sector came on 72 or 73 and up cars if memory is correct.
