I’ve been hearing that the new PL’s are having some problems. But I haven’t seen anything personally.

from What I heard the ford additive is made by Spicer. Ford stuff will smell you out of the shop, gm stuff has grape scent in it !

The old Sure-grip smelled like rotten eggs. If you didn't like somebody soak their interior, yikes.

The proper fill on any diff is 1/2 inch below the fill hole. oil has to have room to expand when it gets warm. Kim

I added the new fluid and Ford additive, didn't make it better. So I ordered a clutch replacement kit and will pull the chunk to inspect and swap parts.

Don't think I've ever had one that smelled like H2S.....

2 bolts were loose on the sure grip and you can see the galling on the clutch plates.

I already had a set I ordered earlier last week.

Everything else looks pretty good. I'm now setting up the backlash so I can get the chunk back in the car later today. I don't think this set had been taken apart because no punch marks on the caps or suregrip for alignment, but......they both had 2 thick flat frictions when it is suppose to be thick and thin flat friction. Maybe someone set it up thick for higher tension?

Yeah, you can adjust those plates to grab quickly or not so quick. I did at one time adjust the plates/dished plates to engage quick, couldn’t go around a corner without the tires grabbing, sorta like a spool. Took it apart and put them back to factory orientation and all was well.

All together and drove it around, did a few figure eights when neighborhood traffic permitted. No grabbing or growling, did get some chirps out of the tires around tight turns but it seems much better so far.

They’ll do that with new clutches for just a little while, till they wear into each other.
