To add, when did you get your first one?
In June 1994 I got my first, a Motorolla DPC 550 flip phone. Since then I have probably been through 10 phones. Some got damaged, some just quit working. I don't think that I ever bought a new one to be trendy. I resisted the switch to a "Smart" phone until 2012. That phone has been with me the longest!
I lost a few phones to water damage. Two were lost into the lake in one summer alone! One fell into a cup with ice water in it. One got melted chocolate in the charging port. How about you guys?

got a nokia brick in 1998

lasted about a month never had another ,I hate the things

Started with Motorola Bag Phone in 94, then I got a flip phone in 98, then a Motorola Razr, HTC Droid Incredible, Samsung S3, now on S5.

1992 I had an Audiovox 3.5 watt bag phone. (AT&T service).

That was a really good phone.

I had the mount in the ash tray (perfect fit) and the phone unit under the seat.

Looked like it was factory installed.

I got a Motorola flip phone around 1998 GTE (remember pre-Verizon?), and then my present LG Optimus in 2012 (Virgin/Sprint).

Three total in 26 years!

I'm not a big geek and don't like being bothered so I never had one until a few years ago mostly because the wife was tired of not being able to reach me . I've had 3 only because I get one once the contract is renewed.

1989 for the first one (business phone). I hated that huge brick. It was nothing but a heavy leash that jerked me around all the time. Then six since then. I never broke or lost any, but I rarely take it with me and I don't answer it when I'm home. I do love the smart phone (my first is my present phone that I got in 2014). Whenever I need to search for a phone number or address, that is the best thing to do it on while on the road.

I've only had one (for about three years) and the only reason I have it is because I'm a Shop Steward.

every few years, I go through my phone and collect the names and numbers worth keeping......... then I smash the **** out of it and go get a new one, along with a new number........In a perfect world I would not have one, other than FOR MY OWN CONVENIENCE

Ask me later..............................after I get my first one.

Around 1992, I got a Motorola bag phone. Analog service, I think it was 30 minutes a month for about 20 bucks. As far as I know, they didn't have ATT around here, it was Bell South. The sound on it was better than what I carry today. I used to hook it up to an antenna on my boat and could get service 25-30 miles from shore. One time I was about 30 miles west of Key West, Florida and made a call home. I was surprised to get a long distance charge on my bill, since the keys were a local call to home. It turns out that I got a tower in Mobile, Alabama.

1st cell phone was a company issued phone back in 2003 to replace my company issued pager (remember them)
1st personal cell phone was a Nokia flip phone 2008. And my 2nd and last is an Apple iPhone 4s

The first one I got a motorola was 2 times the size of the Nokia shown above.
I still have it and the box somewhere in my attic.
The bill for it was horrendous as was the phone..

Way back when i was a bench tech in a less than desirable neighborhood a lady used one of those brick phones to stop a mugging. Who said smart phones were the first multi-use device anyway?

Ask me again..............................after I get my first one.
I had to carry a cell phone at work and I hated the damn thing. The boss would call me several times a day to ask me where I was, what I was doing, how long I was going to be, could I leave the job I'm on and go on a more important job, etc. etc. etc. I pissed him off one day by asking him what he used to do before cell phones were invented. I have never owned a personal cell phone and I don't think I ever will. To me it's like being hooked up to an invisible chain. I know most people can't imagine going through life without a cell phone and that's fine, but I guess I'm not most people.

I remember a car club outing back in around 1988 when one of the guys brought along his brand new mobile phone. Kept it in the trunk along with the two extra auxiliary batteries required to power it. Called the brick, it weighed plenty, and battery life and range was not very good.

Got my first "in car" phone back in 1987 ($2500) , then brought the battery case ($750)so you could go "mobile" ..lol. I've still got it!!
I remember I had 'horn alert' on my truck.Your truck horn would sound on every ring ....problem was ,I left the truck at the unit I was living in at the time and went on a trip and I must have gotten 100 calls !!
The neighbors called the cops, the cops called the cell company,my parents got a emergency call, they called me at the hotel I was at....Needless to say the neighbors where royally pissed for weeks.
Had so many phones I can't remember
