Thanks JerryJust draining the pan, replacing the filter and gasket, it usually takes 5-6 quarts to refill. Draining the converter completely different.
You should try and find a pan with a drain plug. The ones without it make a hell of a mess. Either that or I'm very impatient

while you got the pan off I would adjust the bands just for good measure.
I have never adjusted the bands so I don’t have a clue on what to do.
It doesn’t appear to be a deep pan soI was talking stock pan on the amount of fluid. If you have a deep pan with a plug, figure that in.
I have a 3 gallon drain pan that I use for most everything. It doesn’t appear to be a deep pan so
I should be ok, thanks again sir!

It’s just about an inch and a half, chrome with no brand name. About 6 quarts came out, nice and red and not burntNever seen a "stock" pan with a drain plug. Measure from pan rail to bottom of the pan, stock is about 1".
Yes I’m glad I bought it….the plastic seal on the drain plug was broken in 3 places so I will have to find a new one before I can refill the transmission. That 742 you picked up will be a great upgrade. If you got 6 quarts out, your transmission pan is slightly bigger than stock.
The local hardware store may have a replacement plastic gasket. A chrome 727 pan is aftermarket. Start with 5 quarts & go from there, check on the dipstick. 6 Qts sounds about right if you haven't drained the convertor.
A 742 limited slip is a good piece. I prefer the larger U joint though.
