How the heck do you get the vertical quarter seals off?

I'm having trouble getting the vertical quarter seals off my window frame for my 69 RR. Every time I get a little bit of it off and start pulling it just tears, at this rate I'll have both seals off by next Christmas. Are there any tips on getting these off? Can I soak them in anything to loosen the factory glue?
 
You better take a picture. I am lost too. There has to be another name for them. Thanks.
 
There might be a better name for them but it is the seal that is on the side windows that seals the front windows to the quarter windows on a hardtop. They are glued in pretty well from the factory. I also need to figure out how to separate that polished stainless steel piece from the window. If still needed I'll post a pic of my window on Friday.
 
I get what you're talking about now...The backside of the seal slides into the channel of the stainless trim. The old one's I changed out on mine were not really glued in. If there ever really was glue, maybe it gave way and failed over time or it never came with it from the factory. They came out pretty easy by getting to the backside of the seal with a precise scewdriver and simply popping it out of the channel. I was not trying to salvage my old ones though, they were junk. I bought a new set from roseville, ran a bead of Gorilla Snot weatherstrip glue in the channel, popped the seals in the stainless channel all the way down and Walllaaa!

As far as the stainless trim and how it's secured, that is definitey held in place with the help of some sort of factory adhesive. To remove it, I would try a plastic trim removal tool and a rubber mallet. That would be my first idea to try and get it off, but I didn't need to remove mine...

An old trick I heard to get the stainless trim or the lower channel on and off the glass is to use brake fluid. It softens the rubber to aid in removal and installation. And I don't think the factory glued them. Just soaked the rubber or felt in some oil, which caused it to swell up and hold tight to the glass. An ester based oil will definitely cause a buna material to swell up so maybe there's something to the story I heard. Whatever the factory did it had to be done quickly and reliably.
 
Quarter seal removal

I used an acetone base solvent, however, mine were mostly already removed. My question is how the heck do you get the new one installed past the plastic guides.
 
I had to razor blade mine apart and clean up the glue. Good luck.

I actually already have both the seals for those windows so destroying the old ones won't be a problem. I would just leave the stainless trim on the window but the rubber that holds the window to the stainless is cracked and missing in some spots. My plan is to remove the stainless, polish it up, and using a bike innertube replace the rubber that holds the window to the trim. As far as Cordellj's question regarding the plastic slides I think he is talking about the other side of the trim that goes in the vent window channel. Those plastic slides actually break apart and are two different pieces held together by a little metal pin. You should have gotten these new plastic slides with the new weatherstripping.

Anyhow, thanks for the tips guys and I'll see what a little brake fluid will do to get things separated.

I think you may be right Eagleone. Cordellj may be referencing the front window felt guides....Felt covered plastic, with a two piece plastic clip at the bottom/top, held together with a push pin, cut to fit. I don't think those can be changed in the car (would be really tough being they're a bit fragile/flimsy as well as real confined area), but outside of the car with the window removed is pretty easy. I know R/T specialties and Roseville Moparts sell them. That's where I bought mine. Pricey little suckers......

I am trying to figure out how to install these parts to the rear of the door glass. I sure wish that there was a "How to" video to show how to do this.
 
HEAT, I try to use chems as little as possible, I remember using brake fluid mixed with K2 to remove some gunk on a hot rod windshield, it worked, worked pretty good actually, UNTIL we had to glue the new one in, NOPE, glue dont stick to metal you soaked in k2 and brake fluid, lol.. Ended up sanding, and soaking in thinner, and what a mess...

BUT anyway, I use heat, red heat blower, torch, boiling water, just depends on the situation/application. If heat dont work or cant be used I move on from there. But for the vert seals, I get some water hot, get some pliers, heat'em up, and pull the rubber off with the pliers...
