Hello from germany!

My 1970 Coronet is mostly in original paint.
I want to polish and protect the paint.

Are there some special cleaners, polish paste or something else for this kind of paint?

Noone in germany can help me. The answer is "do some bodywork and make a new paint!"

Thanks

RENE

polish and wax

depending how bad the paint is. mine was bad so i used 3m rubbing compound it has more grit and used a buffer. 3m polishing compound has less bite, try that first. then i went over it with pure carnuba wax. when you use the buffer on that original paint keep the buffer moving and watch out for the edges so you dont burn thru the paint. heres a pic of my barn find. alot of work but looks better. hope this helps you out. good luck...USAROADRUNNER:sFl_america2:

It all depends on how bad the paint is. Meguiar's makes alot of good products for this kind of problem. If the paint is too far gone there is only so far the polishing will go. Start with the less abrasive product and see how it looks on a small area. Carnuba wax is a great wax for these old single stage paints. Good luck!

Thank you guys.

I have tried Liquid Glass but this is not the right one for this kind of paint.

I will try the carnuba wax.

Greetings from germany!!!

it looks like you are on the right path. You will need a polish\cleaner like you have used to remove the oxidized paint and then use a wax with a sunblock that does not have a cleaner in it to maintain the finish. In the future you do not want to remove any more paint than you did in the first steps.
Good Luck. The more original the better.

Meguiar's makes a "smooth surface clay kit" to clean old paint like detailers can - some of those clay-bar cleanup vids on YouTube are pretty impressive.

carnuba wax is the answer to keeping it nice after its cleaned up. yeah its a bit harder to work with....but its worth the effort and it dont get all jammed in the emblems and turn white like that TURTLE WAX crap or anything like it ( liquid wax,,,,JUNK ). does !

dont take a rotary buffer to it unless you know what youre doing. compound WILL BURN the edges of old paint very quickly as stated above.

if youre a novice,,,i suggest polishing compound and a dual action type buffer ( big 9 inch pad that dont spin fast.... just kinda vibrates ) less chance of burning the paint.

I use nothing but "dri wash waterless car wash".
it works for me.:icon_neutral:
because,
*no soap
*NO water
*no vac water out or "blow it out"

x2 on the Meguire's. Invest in a good variable speed buffer. Start slow and polish small areas and clean the pad often. Be sure to apply a coat of wax to the surface after polishing. It's fun and rewarding once you get the hang of it. Don't try to do the whole car in one session or you won't be able to pick up your arms the next day.
