How do you remove the trim above the door that is attached to to the roof? This is a 65 coronet hardtop. I have remove all the screws from the trim and the one nut on the inside at the very back end. I could not find this info in my original. manual. IMG_3561.jpg

Hello AFX,I just took mine off.The back trim above the back window.I sharpen a paint stick and start where you took the nut off behind the headliner. Tap the paint stick where you think the nut would have been. When ever you have the stud out of the body that peice will slide from the top drip railing. To get the small 2' peice off the drip rail I used a piece of aluminum about one half wide or about the same with as your rail and one eighth thick take a small hammer and start taping your tool into the drip rail making sure the tool you made is not bending your drip rail mine came off with no damage.Good luck and be carefull take you time Dave L

Ok, I got the back piece loose that's above the rear quarter window. But I still can't get the piece above the door off. Its somewhat loose and I've pried as much as I dared. I need to reuse that trim and don't want to damage it. Do you have a photo of the clips that are behind that top piece?

works on sedans......but be careful with it.

Hi 65AFX,I will take a picture for you this morning. Its a weirld looking clip. Take your time it will come off with no damage. Dave L

But if you do manage to damage those clips, new ones are available. They are pricey at 10 bucks each and there are 3 per side, rtspecialties has them.

Thanks everybody. I finally got the trim off. None of the suggested removal procedured worked. Ended up spraying lots of penetranting oil inside the trim and got it to move fore and aft. I worked it back and forth a while unitil it got loose enough so that I was able to pull it aft and off the roof. On one side the clips stayed with the trim and on the other side the clips stayed with the roof.

Congrats! Any photos of what it looked like under there?

Last time I looked for the replacement clips the only thing availavable was for the 63 cars. The 64 65 are like the ones posted above. If you get the ones for the 63 and earlier do not drill a screw hole in your roof the attach them.

Here's a pic of what was under the trim on my '62.
Didn't have any clips, used a few wide scrapers to slowly work it off.

Nice pic, thank you! I wonder if they all have that gap near the front? I have seen these just painted and there is always a little piece/clip over in that area?

Not sure about earlier cars but on 71-74 low line cars that didn't get chrome drip rail trim, there is a special part that gets crimped over that gap. The gap on those cars is farther forward, almost right at the bend to the A pillar.

Almost looks like you could use a small piece of the trim?

The rear window trim fell off, the clips were rotted away.
Windshield I used a gasket scraper at the site of each clip and the trim just popped right off.
The side trim of the windshield, and at least the lower corners, have screws within the door jamb.

These clips are readily available, check them out to see what they look like, I do not have a pic.

If replacing the clips, the windows have to come out to get to the single screw for each.
